I am a biopsych major and for all my neuroscience classes that deal with brain chemicals they all say psy in front of the numbers. My friend says they have to say bio somewhere in the description, but for my school my biopsych class were in psychology department. I am confused on how to calculate my science gpa on this. I feel like they should be part of it since its neuroscience. what do you guys think?

Biopsychology (Any Dept.) is listed under Biology. If you feel that your should be this way, mark it as such. AADSAS will have the final say when they verify your transcripts and will edit as necessary.

its weird biopsychology (neuroscience) is in the psychology department so its listed as psy, how can they determine that? Classes are all brain chemicals and neuro pathways and stuff

also in my bio one year requirement they split up bio into eemb and mcdb in my 2nd quarter I got a D in eemb, retook and got a D in eemb again. Would I fit the requirements? when I count the units I got 12 units, not including the eemb class I got a D in. What do you guys think?

Unfortunately AADSAS is pretty strict with their GPA calculations. If it has a prefix of PSY and is offered in the psychology dept then you honestly don't have a leg to stand on. It needs to be counted as non-science. If you mark it as science anyway, you run the risk of holding up your application and having AADSAS ask for clarification, etc.

Also, if you got a D in any part of pre req, semester or quarter, this will not satisfy the requirement of passing and will need to be retaken again.

I'm a psych major so I'm not sure if our situations are similar, but I called AADSAS and they told me I can put my biopsych course (PSY ###) under biology, but the electives that are considered "Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience" (also PSY ###s) at my university must go under non-science. :annoyed: Pretty lame since these courses were heavily neuroscience based. You might want to contact AADSAS though since you're a BIOpsych major, which may make a difference. Or just mark it whatever you think and they'll change it if it's wrong.

Edit: I just checked the AADSAS Course Subjects PDF and it lists Cognitive Psych, Cognitive Science, and Neuropsych (any dept.) all under Biology, so I really think it depends on each of your course's titles. I'd still contact AADSAS though.

Is it just me, or does "Confused Neuroscience" not sound like it could be the coolest 2 credit neuroscience lab ever?

This is wrong. I don't know when you applied for dental school, but have you looked at a more recent AADSAS course subjects list?

It has several classes that are generally offered in the psych department (or at least they were at my undergrad and my post-bacc uni) that are classified as Biology with the "(Any Dept.)" indicator next to them. In those specific cases, I think they are looking at course titles more than the department.

Examples of Biology from the 2015 course list:
Biopsychology (Any Dept.)
Brain and Behavior (Any Dept.)
Cognitive Psychology (Any Dept.)
Neuropsychology (Any Dept.)
Psychopharmacology (Any Dept.)

@gstead245 I would say if your course titles are those exact ones I have listed, mark them as Biology. Otherwise mark them based on the department heading which would be Non Science since they fall under Psych. AADSAS is not going to be looking at your old syllabi to see what Psych Dept classes have enough biology within them to be classified that way, but over the years it seems that they have evaluated that these specific classes should count. Additionally, since Neuroscience as a department is listed under Biology, you could try classifying classes that say Neuroscience specifically as Biology. If the people reviewing your courses believe that you've made a mistake, they will correct it when they check over your coursework section.

I applied last year, and my information is not flat out wrong, just generalized, which i do apologize for. As a general rule, PSY classes do not count as science credit. However, thank you for listing the 5 exceptions.

So OP, if any of your class titles say those exact things, then include them in your science classes. But after that i wouldn't try to stretch anything and i stand by my original advice.... counting classes that may be questionable as science, can seriously hold up your application and GPA verification. Not that it is the norm, but i have heard it delaying apps months.

Here is the PDF with all coursework designations:
