Hi everyone,
I am so confused about this whole pre-dent application/admission process. It took me 3 years to decide what I actually want to do for living. I know I want to pursue a career in dentistry but I just don't understand the whole process of getting into Dental School. I am going to be junior this Fall and I have completed all of the prerequisites. This summer I am taking only one class, and I am thinking of studying for the DAT. With the help of this forum, I found out that Kaplan is the only one that offers a classroom course for the DAT. I am thinking of taking this course, but would like some opinions. If anyone took the Kaplan course in Houston, TX; please give me some information on it. How much time should I give myself to study for the DAT, because I want to take it before fall semester starts. Another thing I don't understand is when to apply to Dental schools? Is it spring of my junior year or summer of my junior year? What prep. should I do for the application process? I am sorry that I am asking too many questions, but is just that I want to get in on my first try. Lastly, I want to ask, if anyone knows where I can get more information on which Dental schools are the best. Like their rankings, etc. Thank you and I hope I didn't overwhelm anyone with all these questions.

😱

I don't know about the kaplan classes in Texas, but in Michigan it was worth paying the thousand bucks for the class (well, for me anyway - its easier for me to get motivated when i have to pay money and theres a class to go to). I think the Kaplan class is something like 2 months long... then i took the test 3 weeks later which was plenty of time for me. Just be sure you do everything they throw at you.

Application - you can apply anytime after mid-may when the cycle begins before your final undergrad year. So if you're going to be a 4 year undergrad student, you want to apply the summer after your junior year. As for dental school rankings, theres no such thing.

your most important resource is going to be practice tests. If you do take the Kaplan course they will provide you with a lot of these. Apply June of Jr. year and take the DAT soon no later than August. Good luck

Thanks guys. Awesome DAT stat's Abzirian! Good luck to both of you.
