I am a college student considering PA school and I'm really confused as to what courses count under the science GPA. I used to be pre-med and know it is slightly different from the pre-medical science GPA (no math or astronomy included for PA sci GPA). Do all courses taken under the biology department (including independent research courses that give grades) count? Or just the pre-requisites of Bio, Chem, Anatomy, Physiology, Statistics?

I saw on CASPA these guidelines. Do all PA schools use these CASPA guidelines? What counts as "Other Science"?
Your Science GPA is calculated based on these courses:

  • Biology/Zoology
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Other Science
  • Physics
If I took Statistics under the Psychology department, does that count for the Stats requirement? Or does it have to be under the biology or math department?

Thanks so much

I believe it does not matter the department. If at least half of the subject matter could be consider science, or the title of the course is a science subject, then you may list it as such. Statistics in the psych department would be listed as Math. The best thing to do is the same thing premeds do on amcas. If it a toss up where it should go, then place it where it will help the GPA you wanted boosted. If CASPA doesn't think the title reflects your decision, they will change it and no biggie.
