Hey there fellow snders,

I'm pretty confused when I should apply for med school now since I have a draw back. I dropped two classes so that actually messed things up. I was going to graduate next spring but there still is a chance that might happen.

I dropped organic chemistry out of foolishness because I now realized I actually could have passed the course. This lead me to postponing orgo 2. I also dropped molecular and cellular biology so I could not take the next higher level course which would have been the last one.

Now I am finishing up my other credits and am planning on taking orgo 1 in summer 1 and orgo 2 in summer two. I talked to m advisor and she told me there is a chance i can take molecular and the next higher level course together with permission from the school. This is not a sure thing, if this all goes according to as planned i will graduate next spring. If not i will finish next summer. Do i apply this upcoming May? I have yet to take the mcat and am currently studying for it. Pretty confused about this thing. Or do i apply in the 2012 cycle?

Would it be safer to apply in the 2012 cycle? More study time and more exposure to orgo because i would have the class again.

What is your current cgpa and sgpa? I think you may be at a disadvantage if you were to apply in May since you wouldn't have either of your Orgo courses completed or an upper level bio. I think if I were you I would make sure I get A's in all of those courses and do well on the MCAT. If your gpa is otherwise fine, and you have great EC's, then you'll be a strong applicant the next cycle (2012) and can apply early and shouldn't have an issue. Put yourself in the best position possible to be a strong applicant--you don't want to have to reapply.

That's very true. Thanks a bunch Lijia for your helpful advice. I guess I will enjoy the year and bang the remaining classes out with As :xf::xf: Could also do more shadowing, make it 5 years 😀

You should apply as early as possible, like June 1 will be a very good date.

You apply June 1st, 2011 to try to get into the class that starts July 2012.

You apply one year in advance.

I think the OP knows the application process is done a year in advance, but was trying to decide to apply Spring 2011 or Spring 2012. Applying in 2012 will allow the OP to become a much stronger applicant and hopefully get accepted the first time around.

Hey OP. I am kind of in the same boat. You need to step back and take a good look at your time management and being realistic. You don't want to set yourself up for failure. Everyone hates having to delay the application cycle, but if you rush you could be delaying yourself even more. Only you can decide what you are capable of.

I, on the other hand, am taking the longer rout. I decided that I am going to go nice and steady. Give myself a good deal of time to get things right. Not rush through, not stress (as much), enjoy life, and apply strong.

Good luck!
