Considering applying DO

Currently applying MD this cycle, but also considering applying DO. My gpa is 3.8 and Mcat is 507 with all sections above 125. I probably have slightly above average ECs, and I have Georgia residency. Is it too late to apply DO if I submit my primary within 2 weeks? Also, where should I apply? I have heard good things of VCOM and PCOM but am pretty uneducated after these two schools. I am definitely open to moving any where in the country to get the best education. Thanks for all of your help!

It is not too late, and with a 507 score, you need to have DO schools on your list.

From personal preference, I would suggest these instead: RVUCOM, PCOMs, VCOMs, KCU-COM, CCOM, DMUCOM, ATSU-KCOM, CUSOM, MUCOM, WVSOM.

Board scores will vary from year to year, so it's not a good comparison metric, and it is more dependent on the individual than a group of people. I don't think there are top tier and low tier DO schools. Whichever DO program you come from, when it comes to applying residency programs all they gonna see is that you come from a COM. Most program directors don't really distinguish between DO school names. When it comes to DO schools, there's just the ones that are very established vs the ones that are relatively new. The most established DO schools are usually referred to as the original 5, KCOM, KCU, DMU, CCOM, PCOM, and the ones that were established before or around the Osteopathic recognition by all 50 states in 1973 like MSUCOM, TCOM, or OSUCOM. So basically, as a student coming in you're probably better off with more established schools because they will probably have better rotations, maybe better research opportunities, and a track record, but in the end you're still gonna be viewed the same way any DO student would be viewed coming from any DO schools (unless of course you come out a superstar with lots of research and publications, 260+ STEP/700+ COMLEX, Honors in all your classes and rotations).
