I just got class rank today. Yeah, I screwed up and now its official.

Honestly, staying another year in HS will just be more torture.

Can I just drop out and take the GED exam and just go to my CC when I turn 18?

Honestly, I don't even know if I want to be a doctor. I feel like such an idiot. I really just want to kill myself now. I really do. I'll never amount to anything in this life.

i think you should use your little quote under you post and change your attitude. Regardless of if you want to be a doctor or not, you need to finish high school. I don't care if this is tough advise or if someone gets upset that i say it but.... You need to suck it up, grow up and finish high school. If you do not you will not be able to get a decent college degree or in any other fashion be able to make something of yourself. All the high school drop outs that I know are working in dead end jobs and are unhappy with their lot in life.

so in other words...get off the internet and study.

p.s. my parents would have kicked my a**! I hope yours would do the same if you decided to make this mistake.

Dude, you need to suck it up
Dude, my school is major competitive (blue-ribbon school like 42nd in the nation), people there call me ******ed, saying i have a XXY and all that BS, that I have 1 extra chromosome. But seriously I don't give, I get As and Bs in my school
But still ppl with As call me ******ed, I personally just keep moving on.
Theres so many fields out there, not just a doctor
If you're worried based on salary-wise, theres always business [entrepreneurship] or other crap. Don't give a damn about it, just live your life

Dropping out of high school is the biggest mistake you can make right now in your life.

Let me say that again,

Dropping out of high school is the biggest mistake you can make right now in your life.

The world out there is getting more and more competitive, and you can't give up on it because of something stupid as class rank. Finish high school, and you can get a fresh start in college. Work hard, and you can get in to your state school, no problem! You have a fresh start, and if you work hard, change your attitude, you CAN become a doctor.

I was getting C's and D's back in 9th grade in my high school. I changed my attitude, and now I have a shot a medical. It's all about attitude, and with that, comes the drive to work hard. You got this, don't give up!

Dude, get a grip. High school rank means nothing. NOTHING. You can still go to medical school even if you graduated in the bottom of your class in high school. Also, no one has a stupendous time in high school. It's miserable in one way or another for everyone at some point in their lives. You can't always run away from your problems.

Stay in school.

a lot of the better colleges only accept high school diplomas, not GEDs. so check with the places you want to go to first. and i don't know anything about the ged, but make sure you can pass/ get the score you need. personally, after going to all that work, it seems pretty dumb to give it up the last year. I would just stick it out if i were you. you just have one more year right?, so even if it's miserable...

Dude, don't you know how to play the game ?

If you want to have higher class rank, you find a way to study hard and earn the grades.

If you want to be popular among your friends, you find a way to be popular.

If you want to deal with a teacher, play the game and get an A from his/her grading even though the teacher doesn't like you.

If you want to get the leadership postion, talk down everyone and get that postion.

If you want to do something, do whatever you can and achieve the things you want.

My motto : "Men are born to solve problems"

Man, please finish high school.

Also, feel happy about the challenges you are facing. For me, challenges are fun and I absolutely enjoy play the game to solve problem and conflicts everyday in my life. Think, Jeff, It would be so beneficial when you solved all the problems and overcome all the challenges. Think big, go solve your problems.

Think about college as a new beginning. My class rank was extremely high, but i messed up my first semester due to personal issues with myself. Now if you look at my gpa you would think i was bottom 30% of who graduated from highschool.

But i wasnt, and i can change it. You get a chance to start over. NO need to drop out unless you have no other choice. You can stay in school. Deal with the consequences because its only going to make you stronger and prepare you better for the future.

Dont think you cant do something because of numbers or letters on a paper. Last year as a senior in highschool, i would dispute my AP bio teacher all the time. She gave me 88's and 90's...much much lower than what i deserved.

I finally got tired of it after gettign into college and took a fair stand. She would always be sarcastic and smart so i told her where i knew it would hurt. When AP time came, i was one of the 2 people in class who actually passed the exam.

thats how you need to think, it depends on how much you know. Dont worry about medical school now, its very very uncessary especially when you have a long way to go. Dont think about the "What if's" think about what you can do to change.

Last time you were at your doctor did you happen to see their high school diploma on the wall? did you ask what their rank and gpa was in high school? Its easy to get straight A's: take four PE classes, be a TA and do other easy classes. All that matters is if you took it seriously and actally learned something that will give you a greater advantage at college.

All that matters is how you preform in COLLEGE. Sure, if your grades are in the toilet you may have to start at at Community college but college is a FRESH start on your academic profile. Also the only requirements for most CC's is that you have some money and a pulse. Then if you do a kick-ass job there you transfer on and finish up a BA. Its not that hard. DON'T GIVE UP you can do it, from what I have see from your writing on here you are a intellect individual, so don't throw it away by dropping out!

High school class rank doesn't matter. I was ranked like 40 in a class of 140 at an under-performing public high school. If you don't get into an Ivy league college, oh well. Medical schools really don't care if you get your bachelors from Harvard or State U, as long as your grades and MCAT are good.

Stick through high school. Med schools wont look at your high school, so just do well in college.

Random question: You have klinefeltor syndrome (XXY)?

Sorry applying what I learned in AP bio...

ummm..... weren't you the one who said that high school doesn't matter but it's undergrad that schools look at when you want to become a doctor? Guess that doesn't matter if you don't wanna live anymore though. I want to drop out at the end of each week, and by Friday I just can't take anymore...and today is one of those days, but I don't because there are a few people who keep me going. Find a couple really good friends who will push you along the way, and school will be a lot better(not easier-just more doable). I know that if it weren't for some of my friends...Idk what I'd be doin right now.

Why get a GED? Does your school use credits? To graduate from my school, I think the minimum is 22 credits...so I could graduate early (11th grade) if I got the credits and not even get a GED.I'm only short two classes for that though. You'll probably feel better by your next test. Anyways...hope I helped!

Random question: You have klinefeltor syndrome (XXY)?

Yes, it is. It's very obvious if you knew you learned about that syndrome.

Back to the topic: I strongly agreed with those posters above. Jeff, do not drop out -- medical schools do not look at your high school grades, or ranks

Yes, definitely drop out of high school! A year is an eternity, totally not worth having a basic high school degree for the rest of your life.

No, really. They call it the Good Enough Degree for a reason, right? What more do you need in life?

👍 Thanks for the help.

I also suggest to make a poll when you ask a "Yes" or "No" question. This will be helpful when people are too lazy to answer your question but they can select "Yes" or "No".

Good luck 🙂

I just feel like even if I do well for a year at my CC, no school will look at my app.

I dropped out of high school and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

On the other hand, I've met a lot of people who dropped out of high school and who still can't read past a 5th grade level in their 30s, 40s, or 50s.

As with any decision, you would have to do a cost benefit analysis and figure out what you stand to gain by putting that time to a different use. Are you sure you need to be 18 to enter community college? In some places, you can enter at any age, if you have a HSD/GED.

A high school diploma has basically no value, but establishing that you are willing and able to jump through the same hoops as everyone else is how you get into college.

ooooh I beg to differ, my friend. Why say it has not value? You may have made it out ok without one but the chances for an average person being successful without one aren't too good. Lol this must be the dropout zone...let me leave before yall try to convince me of something.

He was being sarcastic.

Don't think that way. There are plenty of people who went to a CC at some point and still get into medical school. Also, if you drop out how do you plan to get into the undergraduate school that you want? Just getting a GED will definitely not help you. As has been said before, class rank doesn't matter for anything! Finish your last year or graduate early or transfer schools or something, just get that high school diploma. It'll make things a lot easier as you proceed as a pre-med.

Again you seem hellbent on getting out of CC in just one year, for no genuinely good reason.

Just charge on through high school and spend 2 years at CC like a sane to-be transfer student and quit crying.

I would argue that what you learn along the way to that diploma may have value, but the diploma itself really doesn't have more value than whatever the current fee is to take the GED. I've never had a prospective employer ask whether or not I had a HS diploma and, over many years of hiring people, I never asked anyone either.

In my experience, there is not much that a high school diploma will provide one in life, other than entrance into a four year school. If one is planning to spend the first two years at a CC, that benefit is no longer important.

Now, if the OP's goal was to go into a four year program out of HS, my answer would be different. Not everyone is ready for college on the same schedule. It took me 17 years after leaving high school to be ready. 😉

Ok the DIPLOMA might be useless but it signifies that you completed high school which is usefull...instead of having to pull up all your high school stuff, they can just know you finished by that useless paper. I heard that employers do look for a high school diploma and that more are looking for people with college degrees

I'd rather be out in one. So I can actually get to know people and staff at the university I want to go to. Most people who couldn't get in just do one I would imagine. That is what my friends' bro did who is at Uni of Maryland-College Park. Just saying.

I don't know... I think I'm just getting myself too worked up over this.

EDIT: And seriously, what the hell do you mean "genuinely good reason"? I SHOULDN'T BE THERE. I should be at a regular four year school. Unfortunately I screwed up and have to go to CC. Wouldn't it make the most sense to get out of there, leave all the idiots from my school, and just get on with my career/life? Methinks yes.

I don't really understand the reason for this drama. You knew you'd done poorly in high school, you knew you were likely going to be at the bottom of your class, you were planning on going to CC for a year. What exactly has changed?
Here's what I think. If you're hell-bent on CC, do a CC for two years. Spread out the credits so you actually do well for a change and when you apply to a 4-year university you can avoid sending them your HS transcript. If you want to spend more time in college, get to know more people, do research with profs etc, then spend three more years there instead of just two (spread courses out more). This is not a sprint, and one year isn't going to make one bit of difference. That way you'll get the best of both worlds: spend two years at a CC preparing yourself for college-level classes and getting your grades up, then three years at a 4-year university getting the university experience and all the stuff that comes with it. You can apply to med school whenever you feel like it.
But for crying out loud, if you're freaking out over a class rank in high school (a class rank which you knew would be poor anyway), I gotta wonder how well you'll handle the pressure of college and med school emotionally.

I'm just upset.

if flipping burgers is your thing then i say drop out. if my dr gave up everytime my diagnosis was tough you best believe i wouldn't be going back to him. learn to suck it up. you obviously must not play sports with an attitude like that...

and wanting to die over grades??? seriously...

👍 Thanks for the help.

I think I er... detected some sarcasm there on Tib's part...

Stay in school! Dropping out is ridiculously stupid... especially over something as menial as class rank. It's not even that big of a deal if you're planning on going to CC anyways....
