My question is wether a hospital can restrict to whom consults go to.
Scenario: Smaller 40-60 bed hospital with employed hospitalist group with some of the weekends and nights covered by moonlighters (independent contractors). There are two medicine subspecialty groups, group 1 and group 2, with their respective providers having privledges at the hospital. However, the hospital has some policy/agreement/whathaveyou that only group 1 can get the new patient consults where as the other group is consulted only in the event that the patient is an existing patient of group 2.
