If you email him and leave a call back number he will contact you. Or send him a PM. I think he has lecture until 9 tonight.

have you tried contacting the gazillion professors that go to your college?

Let it go man. The guy wrote the book so naturally, people would like to talk to him.

I talked to him multiple times while I was preparing for the DAT. He was very helpful and gave me a great deal of insight.

The DAT is a standardized test...it's slightly different from the classroom setting. Standardized tests are Dr. Romano's game...he knows the field very well and can probably provide a greater deal of insight.

If you had a question about class material...naturally, wouldn't the professor of the course be the first person you'd want to talk to?

Try talking to some of your chem professors at UW, you'd be surprised how clueless some of the are when it comes to standardized tests like the mcat, dat, chem gre, etc....

You are contradicting yourself. While the DAT is a standardized test it tests you on the sciences (I'm guessing that's what people are calling the author about...and not "how much time do I have to take the PAT"). These people that want to call the author aren't calling to ask the author about the test but the subjects (again...sciences). The professors don't have to be knowledgeable about standardized test (nor do I expect them to be) but I can guarantee you they can reason through most of the problems with you (I'm saying this from experience...yes I talk to professors frequently and not just about class material). Am I saying that the author is useless? No...but when people are complaining that they can't get in touch with the author they need to be smart enough to think of another option instead of whining about not being able to contact the author (whom I'm sure is a helpful person and very knowledgeable about the sciences and the test itself). Would I call the author over a professors at my school if I was stuck on a problem on destroyer? Very likely. Would I wait until 9pm when I could get my question answered at 2pm by a professor because the author is not available? No. Would I spend and extra $50 (to buy the book new) just to have the privilege to talk to the author? No.

Please refrain from using crass language, even if you are expressing displeasure over a person or a product.

You're missing the point...it's about insight...all things being equal, I'd rather talk to Dr. Romano then the profs at the chem department.

So, which professors at UW are so prompt and willing to answer questions if you aren't taking a class? Really, I'd like to know...

Why do people insist on useless bashing of products? Shouldnt you guys all be studying or something

Of course not, that would mean they are doing something productive... 🙂

I'm not missing the point at all, you just aren't reading careful enough. If you read my post again I stated that... "Would I call the author over a professors at my school if I was stuck on a problem on destroyer? Very likely" (as you said...all things being equal I'd rather talk to Romano) But the point is that it's not equal when students need an answer and the author is not available while the professors are. I don't know why you'd want to know which professors "are prompt and willing to answer" since you are done with your DAT and the original poster couldn't benefit from the professor names since he doesn't go to the UW. I will however post a few of my favorite professors so far that have helped me greatly just in case somebody at the UW is looking to get their questions answered.

I assume you know most of these professors, especially as a biochem major?
-Hauschka, Freeman, Lara, Weigle, Andersen ==> are probably my favorites professors; Freeman and Weigle won't be easy to get a hold of summer qtr but Hauschka & Lara are usually available quite often. Or you could just go the UW Sum Qtr and look up who's teaching what class and go online...get their syllabus (I assume u know the chems/bios departments site) and look up their office hrs/phone/email. I've never had any problems talking to teachers because I wasn't in their class.

I wasn't talking about the logistics/technical details of the test when I meant insight. I meant insight regarding the question types, common traps test writers set up, high yield topics, common mistakes made by students, that sort of thing.

Oh well, I'm not trying to argue, and don't want to get off on the wrong foot w/ you.

I was just curious about the professors, that's all. I like Anderson...he's is one of the hardest profs I had. Had him for chem238.

Not a fan of Freeman. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he the one who screwed up the whole bio sequence?

I think Weigle would be a bit busy...he's an MD right?
