I know that once you apply, and are rejected, it's ok to contact the med school to find out why you were rejected...
I'm applying for 2002, and I'm nervous. Is it ok to contact med school Admissions Officers beforehand...say, now?, and ask whether I stand a realistic chance, and what I can do to improve my chances?
Thanks y'all.

Absolutely, I did the same. It save me some money too since I kinda had a hint of where I actually might have a realistic chance.

Sure it's OK. I contacted about 5. The advice you get is interestingly different from that you get from your premed advisor. I talked with the Dean of Admissions at one school for about 30 minutes. It was a top 20 school and I didn't think I had a chance, but I interviewed there the first day of their interview season! Making connections never hurts. Good luck.
