I was thinking about contacting my state rep. about the issue of autonomy and direct access. has anyone else done this for their area? has anyone taken a different approach?

I would first check with your state's practice act and see if it is already in place. If not, you may want to contact the state PT association and see if they have something in the works and see how you can get involved. That might be the best was to go about it.

I agree with MinnDasota. Few places have 'true' direct access so you will surely have something to talk about with your representatives.

I have both called and met with legislators personally--it is a great thing to do, and usually takes less than 5 minutes. Most reps. are pretty easy going because they want constituent input.

My advice is to pull together a few talking points about the issue and think about any personal examples to support your case if you have the opportunity. I have tied in how issues have either impacted my family personally or patients.

Best wishes!!
