Hey I just thought this would be something a little differnt and possibly fun for all the smart people on here to test how smart they are and to see how much they know about the adcoms choice about who is getting in to their dental school. I am applying to 16 schools and if anyone can get all of the schools that I will get into as well as waitlisted I will give them 20 dollars. I will up date it when I get rejected and accepted and so forth. I will send the winner/ winners 20 dollars by mail just pm me. I know 20 dollars isnt a lot but thats all I can afford especially if multiple people get it correct. So this is just something fun to do in the mean time of answering all the other questions about AM I SCREWED?

OK so a little about me to give you the best chance to win 20 dollars. I am Caucasian, a resident of Ohio and I just finished my junior year at Miami University (ohio). I am part of a fraternity where I served as Finance chair and athletic Chair. Im also active in my pre-dental club being apart of Publicity chair, Community service chair and fund raising committee. I have around 200 hours of community service including coaching a 8/9 basketball team, Adopt a school ( go and help 5th graders with homework), Relay for life, soup kitchen and other random stuff. And I attended Leadershape. I also have 60 hours of shadowing of 2 dentists. I have no research experience and played no musical instruments.

I have sent in all my information to aadsas and I have 4 LORS

Now for grades: according to aadsas first column is credit hours, 3rd gpa with +/- and 5th is gpa w/o

Cumulative BCP 52 174.33 3.35 174 3.35
Sciences 70 242.33 3.46 243 3.47
Non-Sciences 26 94.67 3.64 95 3.65
GPA Overall 96 337 3.51 338 3.52

I took my DAT's on june 6th
AA: 18
TS:19
PAT: 17
QR:16
RC: 18
Bio:18
Chem: 18
Ochem: 20

And finally the 16 schools

Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (AZ)
Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BU)
Case School of Dental Medicine (CWR) OH
Marquette University (MQT) WI
New York University (NYU) NY
Nova Southeastern University (NSU) FL
The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University (TEMP) PA
The Ohio State University (OSU) OH
Tufts University (TUF) MA
University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) MI
University of Kentucky (UK) KY
University of Louisville (UL) KY
University of Maryland (MYD) MD
University of Michigan (MICH) MI
University of Minnesota (MIN) MN
University of Pittsburgh (PITT) PA

I know some people wont like this but its just for fun and if you dont like it dont participate. Its really just to see how much on this website knows about the different dental schools because so many claim to act as if they are adcoms and know what your chances are. So here is you chance to prove that knowledge and possibly win some money. Good luck😀😀😀😀😀

Please list:
1)Where I will interview where I will get in
2) where I will get in
3)Where I will be waitlisted

haha i kinda like this idea. i'm still in the application process so i can't really participate but i'm curious as to how this will turn out...

You live so close to me, how about I just rob you of your $20 ;P

Hmmm...Im going to take a guess in a bit. Realize first however that no one can tell, because we don't know the competition and THAT is the important part each cycle.

Before though, I need to know if you are planning to retake your DAT due to less than average scores for enrollees the past 3 years? (I'd probably retake with your GPA. It isn't that it is terrible, but it isn't the strongest either) Also need to know if you are black, hispanic etc. and what state you are from.

Hey just wanted to say anyone can guess even if your applying in this cycle.

Its all in the first paragraph ... Im from Ohio and Caucasian.... I do not plan on retaking the DAT because I figure my scores are average and they will get me in somewhere and I dont want to spend another month studying. I have a feeling that a lot of the scores on here are a little higher than most and I figure I am pretty social so I think I will be fine in the interview.

And I dont expect anyone to know because then I would be paying out a lot of money... its similar to a NCAA basketball bracket and who get lucky. Its just something different.

Yeah, you are right. You did mention some of that stuff, sorry. I understand about not wanting to retake your DAT of course. I sincerely hope you do get in somewhere since now 19+ is average DAT score along with a 3.52 GPA. You should since your GPA is average, but man if you had a higher DAT, you could choose your school instead of letting the school choose you.

Ya I know I just dont know if I would do that much better... prolly better on PAT and QR ...same on ochem maybe a little higher on chem... bio I was happy because I had 10 crazy questions ... RC I was happy because I had no plan... and now I am starting a full time job and I was a hermit for the last month.... I figure at least I hope I will get in somewhere but I figure since they are an average I can get in because all of the crazy smart people like on here raise the average. And I figured it would help since all my applications are in

I'll play.

Your GPA is good, but your DAT scores are mediocre. Your extracurriculars are good, but nothing out of the ordinary. My guess:

Case Western Reserve --> Interview
Nova --> Interview
Temple --> Interview
UDM --> Interview
Pitt --> Interview

As long as you're not a social ******, you should get into:
Case
Nova
Temple

I think you're borderline with the following schools:
BU (seem to like a higher DAT)
Tufts
OSU
Maryland
NYU (seem to like a higher DAT)

Good luck!

I had extremely similar scores to you and I am a Caucasian Ohio resident.

I got into Ohio State 2 days after my interview

I was waitlisted-reheld 3 times at Case before I got in...

Rejected from Pitt/NYU/USC

Said no to an interview at WVU

Didn't pursue UDM because I realized I don't want to be in Detroit

Never heard from Boston

Waitlisted with no interview at Marquette

I put my money on OSU!!!!!!

I was hoping more would reply but o well

19+ is "Average"? can you qualify this as the average of what exactly?

I think he is just saying people do get 22+s and what not.

Is nowhere a valid answer?:meanie:

you got your app in early and you don't have serious holes in your numbers, so your chances of getting interviews are good, and as long as you don't screw those up you have a real strong shot at most of the private schools you listed. NYU is your safety in my eyes and you'll be pretty solid at temple and tufts and possibly some others, but you're DAT is shaky so you can't be sure about any of them, solid applications like yours can fall through the cracks just because they don't have any particulars that "stand out", so be thoroughly prepared to wow your interviewers.

State schools aren't likely to go for you out of state, especially as a white male (simple truth, they have minority quotas to fill, for better or for worse), so if there's one you particularly like, make sure to get up with them and see if you can go and meet with someone ahead of time to make it clear how much you like them. Things like that may or may not help, but state schools are big on connections so of you lack those you need to make up for it by spending time with them in person.

Bottom line, you're in a good position, thanks to your early app, to get some interviews that could turn into acceptances (and will probably incur several waitlists), but don't get dismayed if you don't make it this year. If you get your DAT's up into the 20's and perhaps get some serious comm service (which I would start now), you'll be in awesome shape to get into several schools next year and have the enviable position of choosing where to attend. I failed my first time around with lower gpa (3.3) and higher dat (19,19,19) only to get in the next year with the same gpa and a much better dat (22,22,24), though both years my application was late (october and august, respectively).

good luck!

What is the prize if I get it right?😀

NYU! Good luck!

If a person can guess what schools I will get into and get waitlisted at I will send them 20 dollars in the mail and if your close I will prolly do it also because Ill be happy Im going to dental school 😀😀😀😀

I say you get acceptances nowhere. Perhaps 1 interview.
Sorry, but that's what my prophetic senses are telling me.

I applied last cycle, so based on that information:

UPitt basically indicated that everyone who interviewed got in. Those stats were something like 325 interviewed and 300 were accepted in order to fill 150 or so seats. So I think if you get an interview there you should be fine. I think judging by your stats you fit in the ball park of what theyre looking for.

NYU accepts a ton of people. True, theyre starting to be more competitive, but I think that your scores fall in their averages. Again, assuming you get the interview (that they aren't put off by slightly low QR scores and average gpa - which shouldn't be a problem) I think you have a good shot

Case Western should be a safe school too. Although its one of the larger schools in the midwest, and so more competitive, you are instate with a reasonable application.

Those are my guesses. A little about me, Im white and from NY. I applied to 20 schools but withdrew about 5 of those. I interviewed at 9 got accepted to 8 and waitlisted at 1. Got rejected from 1 and never heard back from 5 or so. I have a 3.84 and a 21 on the DAT. Good luck to you!

The truly 'I have nothing better to do' thread😀

Trick question, you will get rejected from all 16. I'll be waiting for my 20 dollar check in 12 months...

My guess: acceptances at OSU, Case, Marquette.

Alright well I said I would keep everyone updated about this process if anyone would like to join your more then welcome.

So I got a rejection letter from CASE 🙁🙁 kinda surprised because I heard they were easier on in state and I had similar stats to someone who got an interview at case already he just had a better PAT which I guess could have been the determining factor. But o well 15 more schools to count on hopefully I get the call from someone.

O and the answer nowhere doesnt count because the contest is where will I get in and I dont want to get more depressed
