So, I got placed in the "continue to review" category post-secondary at Penn State. They said that this is "common" practice. Anyone else been here and what are my chances of advancing to the interview stage? Also, is this an ominous omen for me for the rest of my apps? If a so-so school like Penn State doesn't want to give me an interview right off the bat, what are my chances at other schools?

each school has its own persona and looks for unique attributes among their students so im sure you will click at other places...just my 2 cents

so very true.
thats why i love msu...
they really emphasize "fit"
if you seem like a student that would fit in...they give you a chance.

other schools....i dunno what the heck they do.

but yeah dont worry about it. schools are different so hopefully you wont get the same response from others.

Yea, I'm in the same boat for Penn State and my state school as well, SUNY Buffalo. But I am getting interview requests for higher-ranked schools.

I think the "Continue to review" category is when the adcom is trying to ration out the number of interview spots they have left, and that also means not giving interviews right away to people who may consider Buffalo a safety school and who, if accepted, would have a low probability of attending the school.
