Hi I’ve been shadowing at a family medicine practice for a couple months and probably have at least 100 hours w the doctors but was wondering if I should continue my hunt for another specialty to shadow or would it be okay to apply w the one shadowing experience. He’d also be writing me a recommendation letter.

I’m also not sure what to put it down as when I do my primary. It was shadowing but they had me basically working as a MA + shadowing the Dr.

Oh and the other doctor that is at the practice is from a different country and got her MD from out of the country but is working on her US certification. Should I still ask her for a letter of rec?

100 hours of shadowing is sufficient. You do not need additional hours unless you are interested in learning more about another specialty.

If most of your hours were spent shadowing, then I think putting this under the 'Shadowing' category makes the most sense. You do not have enough hours to break down this activity into two entries (one for Shadowing, and the other for Clinical Volunteering).

Also, shadowing letters are rarely useful unless a school explicitly asks for one. If one is required and you truly feel that all of their input would be helpful, all the physicians at the practice can write a joint shadowing letter. Just my thoughts.
