Hey I am about to start my 1st year of pharmacy school and I have the opportunity to do tuition reimbursement through the company I work for (retail pharmacy). I receive 6,000 a year and in return I work my first 4 years out of graduation with that company.

I was wondering if people have taken advantage of this with their respective companies and what their experience was. Did the company held up with their end of the bargain or did they try to pull a fast one on you (ie. offer you a job clear across the country).

The reason why I am asking is because last year my company fired about half the P4's that did tuition reimbursement and I just want to know if this negative event was a isolated incident or is that a re-occurring thing that happens with different retail companies?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

TBH 6k a year wouldn't be enough for me to lock myself into a contract.

I agree with that part, but I also feel that I may have and advantage when getting a desirable job after graduation since I am leaning towards retail.

Here's a way to look at it: If they do fire you, you are no longer obligated to repay or work off the money that they fronted you for tuition (usually... but check the fine print. They will have you sign some kind of contract).

On the other hand, I would have to side with UNM somewhat. I would not want to be locked in like that (again). So, being contracted for a few years is nothing to most people, especially if it is something that you enjoy.

The hospital where I worked as a tech before I started pharmacy school offered a similar deal. I almost took it, but in the end I decided not to because they couldn't guarantee where I'd be placed or what my pay would be. I didn't think they were out to screw me over or anything, but they could have placed me in the middle of nowhere for below-average pay and there would have been little I could have done about it. The situation would be even riskier with a large retail chain.

There isn't a right or wrong answer here, but get ALL of the details before you sign anything.
