Hey,

Regarding a convex mirror / diverging lens will the image be virtual, upright, and smaller? Or will the image be bigger. And if so, when will it be smaller and when will it be bigger?

Thanks!

For a diverging mirror (convex) or diverging lens (concave), the image will ALWAYS be smaller, upright, and virtual. No exceptions. 👍

Thanks,

I just wasn't sure about the 'smaller' part

stupid mneumonic i have for this:

University of Nevada in Las Vegas

upright, negative, little, virtual

i associate this with divergent lenses, which make me think of hourglass figures of vegas showgirls 🙄 whatever works!

Is this true also for converging mirror (concave) or converging lens (convex), when the object is inbetween the focal point and the lens? It will be smaller?

Wouldn't this be bigger, real, and inverted?

also think UV and IR...like the two types of EM radiation. Upright always goes with Virtual, and Inverted always goes for Real. works for me.

If the object is outside the focal point of the converging lens, it will be real, inverted, and bigger.

But if the object is inside the focal point (in between the focal point and the lens), it will be upright and virtual. I'm not sure about the smaller part though, but I guess that must be the case.

Does smaller always go with virtual and upright, and bigger always go with real and inverted?

sorry to bring back a old thread...

But I was wondering would it be save to infer that:

Mirrors: Concave- Inverted, Real
Convex- Upright, Virtual

Lens: Diverging- Upright, Virtual and Reduced

Thanks...
