My situation is that I have an acceptance at UC Irvine and a waitlist at UCSD. After April 30th, UCSD asks if we are still interested in being on the waitlist and I plan on telling them that I am.

I plan on mentioning my UCI acceptance in order to convince UCSD how much I would like to matriculate, how much do you guys think that would help?

I am thinking of saying that although UCI is a reputable school, that it is 20 minutes from my home, close to friends and family, and that it is much cheaper for me to attend, my heart is set in SD for a variety of reasons that I will also mention in detail. I also will update with research productivity, clinical hours, and good grades.

How else can a typical waitlist applicant sincerely convince the school that they REALLY would like to matriculate there? @Goro @LizzyM @ANY other adcoms/faculty. Thank you!!

Don't withdraw your application from UCSD. That's usually the first clue that you are still interested. If UCSD is higher ranked than UCI, then they will assume that you prefer it-- or you would have withdrawn from the UCSD waitlist after being admitted to UCI.

Unless the school has explicitly said that it likes updates and letters of interest, don't waste your time.

I can't see how UCSD would ever consider that you're a catch just because you have an accept at UCI.

An accept at Stanford would be a different story.

I was hoping that my willingness to forego a comparable UC that's close to home and with a cheaper cost of attendance would show how much I would sacrifice in order to attend SD, but then again everyone on the waitlist feel the same way so I finally now realized the point that my love doesn't mean much. It matters more what I can give to them lol such as being stanford calibre

This is a very common SDN delusion.
