Okay, guys, yay for making it to the end of the quarter 🙂
But I was wondering, does baking/cooking unofficially count as an extra curricular? As in, I practice it a lot in my free time and I bake for family and friends for different occasions like birthdays and stuff, but do not ask for pay. It's just a realllllly enjoyed activity that I will always continue to do 🙂 Though, in a way, I have learned a lot and grown through it so I feel it has impacted my life. Furthermore, I have a story behind why I started cooking and baking.

Thanks 🙂

yay cookies!

I wouldn't give it its own entry in your amcas application, but why not include it in a list of other interests? in fact, I'm pretty sure I included it (with a bunch of other random activities, like sports, music, woodworking, etc.) in a list of my avocations. everyone loves cookies and if a med school sees this in your app and doesn't like it, would you really want to go to a med school that hates cookies😱 I would not

+1

i put cooking as a hobby on my resume. i love cooking. and crafts. and driving. after med school...if i end up with a lovely surgeon who has a good old-money family...i may end up driving the kids to school half the time and consulting pt's the other half.

I say put it on your application unless you have 15 absolutely awesome activities. I put video games on mine. I play them a decent amount, and have won a couple tournaments, but nothing too major. It makes you much more human, instead of "oh that one applicant", you're "the video game guy" or the "one the likes to make cookies". No harm in putting something at least a little unique on there.
