Hello everyone, I think I know what decision I need to make but just want additional guidance. Got into Cooper back in November, was on the waitlist for Creighton (Phoenix) and another school up until this point. Went to Cooper's open house in March, really liked the feel of the school and the students seemed really happy there. Signed a lease (starting July 1) for a place we really like last week near campus, but haven't sent any money yet to the landlord. I just got the call this morning that I was accepted into Omaha campus, they said it's not likely I'm going to get into Phoenix (have family there).
Creighton:
Pros:
- seems like more people match back into CA
- Jesuit/Catholic
- has home hospital
- more well known and established
- lower cost of living
Cons:
- In Omaha, and have no family/friends nearby, will be harder for my fiancé's work since he travels frequently
- H/P/F curriculum (not sure how close this is to true P/F)?
- have to break a lease
Cooper:
Pros:
- close to fiancé's family in NJ and close to a lot of my friends in NY
- start clinical experiences within your first few weeks of class
- home hospital (Cooper Health)
- seemed like a very collaborative and support environment, students said admin was great
- true P/F curriculum
- really like their focus on compassionate care/philosophy
- $3 billion being put into healthcare system
Cons:
- Not as well known/ranked/established (opened in 2012)
- most people match to east coast, which is not a region I want to do residency in (not sure how much of this is because it's an in state school in Jersey)
Both schools far from home (CA). I guess it's hard because I gave up on Creighton and started to get myself excited for Cooper the last 6 months or so. Making a switch like this so last minute and thinking about breaking our lease, finding a new place, cancelling flights, throwing a wrench in my family's vacation, etc. is just kind of overwhelming.
