cornell is on my list, althought it is prob one of the hardest one for me to decide where to place.
but, i saw this on the pathology thread.. dont know how valid it is, but for those who havent seen it:

That may very well be, but it's not their housing that has them near the top of my list, it's the fact that they have by far the best regional training on the east coast, and probably only 2nd to Virginia mason in the world.

Great program, IMHO.

I don't know anything about the post being referred to, but what I do know is that I have an apartment with parquet floors, central air/heat, a dishwasher, 24 hour doormen, a tunnel that leads to work in case it is raining outside, and a view of the Chrysler building from my window. Not to mention that all of this costs about 55% of what it would cost to rent on my own a block away. But please, don't pick programs based on housing or salaries or any other silly things that make no difference in the long term. Look for job/fellowship placements and whether or not you fit in at a place.

Isn't is funny how many programs claim to be #2 in regional? I've heard this from Duke and Wake as well. For some reason everyone seems to be sure that Virginia Mason is #1, however. 😉

Funny, but everyone I've talked to who visited Virg. Mason didn't like the place. I have no west coast/northwest interest, but its interesting nonetheless.

cornell is almost on top of my ROL too, but i read about people complaining about poor didactics and having to relieve CRNAs. how true is that?

I know that having to relieve CRNAs is one one of the biggest complaints the residents had when I was there. If I remember correctly the relieve the CNRAs at 3:00. So you rarely if every have an early day. This is in contrast to other programs which use CRNAs to get residents out at a normal hour.

This topic has been addressed previously, but: Yes, at Cornell there are CRNA's who work until 5pm on some days and only until 3 pm on other days. On the days they work until 3pm, they often need to be relieved if their room is still running. This means that an on call resident is sent to relieve them. Basically, if you are on call and your room is done early (let's say noon) and you are taking a nap on your couch in your apartment, it is possible for you to be paged back to relieve a CRNA. But then again, you are on call!!! This is primarily a CA-1 issue, because CA-2 and 3's are used to relieve non-call residents at 5pm.
The previous comment about never having a short day is absolutely false (see my previous posts for more details on this, housing, moonlighting, etc)
As far as didactics are concerned, look up my previous posts on that subject.
