Just wanted to give a little shout out to all the folks who'll be going to Cornell next year. How many SDNers are planning on starting at WMC this fall? I know there are probably more than a few lurkers out there... come out and say "Hi".
We dont bite. Much. 😉

well, i think this is a little dweebie but...me, jot, DW...

(note, that it being dweebie didn't actually stop me  )

Present! [hand raised higher than a gunner in pbl]

Please to make your acquaintance, comrades. Come out of the i.cracks, LurkerMates!

Hope that Helps

outside of being a dweeb, i'm stoked for class to start this august 😀 I suppose you mudphud folk are moving in earlier this summer. Btw, we're getting some info on health forms and housing in the next few days via US mail according to Liliana Montano, so thats something to look for ...........

yup, I'm definitely on board (as if it hadnt been obvious that Cornell was my post interview choice on SDN for half a year 😉 ), along with jot, boy wonder, and probably wack if he hasnt made up his mind yet, so its looking like an allstar cast. hopefully, the SDN gender breakdown of weill matriculants insofar (i.e. sausagefest) CANT be extrapolated to the whole class

i suppose this info is on the way, but i wonder when orientation starts since I'm trying to plan a mini vacation. ahh well

see ya in olin hall next year
DW 😀

Its funny how things work out...I have finally received all of my financial aid offers and such. After much frustration, I let go of all acceptances yesterday other than the one I have for Cornell. It was tough to turn down some of the other schools but Cornell gave more money and its location I have decided is perfect for me especially since my gf is moving there to continue her acting career. Let the good times begin in Olin Hall...

Let the good times begin in Olin Hall...

Rent for 'studio' in Olin: ~490/month.

Rent for apartments 1 block away: ~2600/month.

Watching DW and Dark_Child mack on perspectives: Priceless.

Hope that Helps.

traditionally it's the 3rd week of august...expect to move in around the weekend of the 16th/17th and start orientation either the 18th or 19th. they're probable sending the info in the next week.

you're in for a great time at CUMC...Olin is a much better place than it used to be when i was a first year. T1 lines...A/C... didn't have any of that. kind of hard to get used to living in a 9x12 room, sharing a bath and common kitchens after living somewhere else, but it's a fun place to learn and there's great sushi in the neighborhood.

Well, I cant say i'm shameless enough to pick up chicks on second looks. I guess I'll just have to work on some "perspectives" now since I dont have any med students lined up in NYC

Hope that Helps

Clear cut copyright infringement.

Verdict:

You're looking at a cool 200 grand and 4-5 years in the NY-Prebystrian for the above buddy.

Hope that Helps

hey future dr. manwhore... don't rule out the possibility of mackin' on classmates...there are ALWAYS people hookin' up in the class...sometimes even cross-class crossmojination. better yield than with perspectives 😉

I'll be doing the Tri-institutional gateways summer reaseach program, researching at Rockefeller.

To all my fellow '07 Cornellians:

Congrats to all you guys. I can't wait to start. Hopefully, we'll all work together and try to minimize competitiveness. From reading the other posts, I think it's going to be great. See you guys in August.

hehe, just kidding.....welcome along bioguy123 😀

I don't know if anyone will read this, but where is everyone moving from. Perhaps I can find someone to share a truck with. Anybody?

st louis...but I'm prepared to bet thats not where you are from!

hey fellow Cornellians....it's nice to "meet" you all.

I finally made my decision to go to Cornell, and it should be official in a few days!

I'm headed to Europe in exactly two weeks, but feel free to drop me some lines before then, I'd like to hear from my future classmates! =)

>^..^<

Awesome. No brainer, eh? It will be a very enjoyable time for all of us. Welcome aboard!🙂

 yay jazzykitti. good to hear you chose Cornell! one thing that is going to be funny is putting faces rather than screennames to some of you...

For the record, my face does not look a like a steaming turkey.

Don't mind if I call some of you by your SDN nicknames for a couple weeks/months. Kinda Top Gun-esque...

What uppp people?? Cant wait to start...orientation will be fun, classes dont look to bad, and students seem pretty chill. I will see all of you in Olin!!

I was wondering what you guy reccommend computerwise. Desktop or laptop, and why? Thanks alot.

actually I was wondering what the computer req was this year. I read something on the web that indicated my computer was about 5 years behind what they required  so would be interested to know what others are doing...

I had no idea they "required" a computer. Personally, I'm a desktop man and I was just in lecture a couple days ago and nobody had a laptop, plus the PBL rooms have 3 computers each, one per group. I'm gonna buy a desktop and an mp3 player to boot, mainly because I find laptops uncomfortable to use.

sorry - I should have been clearer. Some med schools do require a computer - if Cornell does I am unaware of it - but they do have requirements for OS/etc of any computer you hook up to their network (which I assume is the network we pay to hook up to in Olin) and thus I would not be able to connect my current computer to that if I don't upgrade....but I'm going to check on this...

can any curren students comment on how much they use the comp for schoor related stuff, and what kin dof thing sthey needed it for?

spell checks  sorry...couldn't resist 😉

to try and be slightly more helpful one of my student tour guides last year said he didn't have the net connection and did all his computing in the PBL rooms or library. My other tour guide said he didn't understand how the first one had done this though!

Hearing from other current students would be useful...

Do you have to pay extra for the hookup in Olin? I would think it would be free...

nope, it's extra

I can't remember. Something like $300 for the hookup and you stay in Olin 10 months...

I think thats right. I'll have to look at my housing stuff tonight.

hey guys,

Too bad they charge us extra for having a fast internet connection...I wonder if we have to get theirs, or if we can split/share connections...

Do any of you know what happens with housing assignments? I'll be away for most of the summer, so I don't know if we have to approve the assignments that we get...or if there is someone to contact who can also email housing information to me...The deans that I spoke to didn't know too much about it.

Thanks =)

About the desktop/laptop issue, tbw,

i'm definitely going to buy a laptop in august, mainly because i like to have the option of being...how should i put it, technologically mobile? if you plan to use the computers in the PBL room, the library, or your room, then it's probably not worth it to have a laptop, but if you'd like to bring your computer to other places (starbucks, your other friends' libraries, friends' apartments or dorms, home, etc) and do research, get one. I don't know how much med students actually use computers, probably a lot more at cornell than non-PBL places...

...i have an awesome desktop right now (relatively) and I'm probably going to bring that to school, too, but i haven't decided yet...Olin is pretty small and a laptop conveniently allows you more desk space when you need it, or just space in general...

not very insightful, but they're my thoughts nonetheless...

just dropping by to say hey to our new sdn big red here 😀

so, who's opting for the hiking trip in the catskills before orientation? 😉

not a chance...I'm a city boy, whos a city boy, whos a city boy, through and through... 😉

though I've heard it's good, I just don't think it's for me...

i'm with tbW on this - i'll more likely than not skip out on the whole catskills thing...
my brother's nick name for me is "city boy" 🙄 😛

def a city girl here too =) can't wait for august!

i've been in the city for too long...it's hiking all the way for me!

 well I got the flier last night. Hmmm, catskills for 4 days, or NY City with things listed being eating, exploring little known areas of the city, wine, poetry, jazz, and coffee (the last bit being my favourite!) No competition. I'm going with the being bohemian in NYC. 😉

I would go camping if you didn't have to provide a sleeping bag and equipment. I know I probably won't go camping again until 10 years from now, so I'll probably save some cash and stay in the city. Since my last trip I fell in love with the city.

Good to hear from you trance-dj... are you really a trance dj?

thanks for the welcome snoop dizzy dee =) yes, i do spin trance (yay girl djs!)...mostly breakbeats though, and some tribal/progressive house...starting to produce now also =) anyone else into electronica? nyc is quite the spot for electronica, i hear =) with danny tenaglia as a resident at arc/vinyl, appearances by sasha and digweed, steve porter as monthly resident @ centro-fly...just a few of the names that grace the decks in nyc. how i will fit my turntables etc. in a 9x13' room...hmm, that will require some engineering 🙂

anywho, i'm really psyched for cornell med and am looking forward to meeting you all soon!

btw, PMs back at ya snoop 😉

you global underground jock sniffer! vinyl sucks, cuz its 18 and over...all raver kids and no alcohol. if you ask me, that sucks. digweed, he's good: but a sell out. sasha is absolutely chronic, but he needs to quit spending time with his girl (who is at NYU)and actually do something live. and centro-fly? for ****'s sake! if you want to know about the underground scene in nyc, pm me and i'll direct you properly.

For the record, she was referring to names I mentioned in a PM. I am the GU jocksniffer! However, electronica isn't my only genre of interest so I can afford to be. I am far from "underground" or "in the know" in the techno music scene.

Just defending trance-dj from the music snobs. Have you seen High Fidelity, ChronicMD?

hmm, I feel so unkewl. I have no idea what any of you are talking about 😉
