Cornell!! :)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha yeah I know, my flights and hotel res are nonrefundable as well. But I've heard it actually is FRIGID in the midwest..not that us New Yorkers can't handle it 😛

I'm still totally freaking out about interviews though..especially if they ask me "Why Kansas?" The honest answer is "because you are a vet school and you take a lot of out-of-staters" THE END.

Right? Like, why do you want to go to our school? "Um. Isn't it obvious? You are a vet school. I want to be a vet. Please dear god let me in I promise I will love you forever and ever and ever and ever" *sob* Duh.

I hope you have a better answer than that.

Yeah so tomorrow's the day that the email the DVM/PhD applicants got earlier said that they were going to hopefully have decisions by (for the DVM/PhD, not the DVM, in case anyone misinterprets!!). I'm uh, well...I think this is the most freaked out that I have been this application cycle yet. For CSU's status update, even though I knew the date I didn't freak out much because I wasn't that interested in CSU. But I've really thought about it and Cornell's curriculum sounds so perfect for me. I'm going to be way more disappointed when I don't get into Cornell than I was about CSU. 🙁

OMG good luck! Think positive thoughts! I wish they would hurry up with regular DVM decisions. What's taking them so long?

Good luck everyone who applied to the DVM/PhD program at Cornell! And good luck to the rest of us waiting to hear from the DVM program!

Check your email! My letter came this morning. Yay for Cornell!!!

omg i got into cornell!!! biggest accomplishment of my life. good luck to everyone else who applied!

Reject for me as well. i was expecting it. but still. rejections suck!

I guess Microbio is in the cards for this spring!!!! 🙂

I just got into Cornell!! 😀 I just spent the last hour running around crying and calling my parents and sister.

And tomorrow I fly to Kansas to interview. If only plane tickets were refundable! Cornell is IS for me so I'm 99% sure I'll be going there, but I guess it can't hurt to go to Kansas, right?

This is an AWESOME start to my day.

Yeah, not so much!

Not really holding out hope for Penn either. So basically I should have applied to Davis only again, since I'm in the same situation again now that I was two years ago! 😉

aww sorry nyanko. I was hoping you'd get in.
Don't give up hope for Penn just yet!
:xf::xf:

Hooray, a rejection letter. SHOCKED. *not*

Holding out hope for something positive from Penn or Tufts...

Ugh rejected 🙁
it hurts, even though I wasn't expected to get in. Now at least I can tell all my friends I was right when I said I couldn't get in..

Guess I'll have to really try hard at Kansas tomorrow on Sat...

Does anyone know the times for the Information Sessions? Also, do most people fly into Ithaca or maybe Syracuse?

I am so excited to be in as well! I'm also IS and pretty sure I'll be accepting.

so... I'm an alternate. not really sure what to do with that....

I got in!!! 😱😱😱 I was with a bunch of vets that I work with and we were all huddled around the computer when it happened, they all flipped out! Congrats to everyone else and I hope to see you in the fall 😀!

Congrats!! So is it def Cornell over Tufts for you then? What info session are you going to?

I freaked OUT at work. Best day of my life. I'm ABSOLUTELY going since it is my number 1 choice and I'm in state. Congrats to everyone that got in!! I'm going to the first or second information session! 😀

Wow, congrats all you Cornell people. I'm very impressed. 👍

waitlisted. i guess that makes it super easy for me! i'll be withdrawing as soon as i get the official letter.

congrats to those who were accepted!

I'm in OOS! Although I'm still fretting because they say I owe them two courses (English comp and Bio II) that I've already fulfilled! Can't wait to get this figured out...

Why do they hate me so? This will be the fourth time I've been rejected by them...once for undergrad, once to transfer in, and now 2x for vet school. Even more importantly, why do I keep coming back for more. If only I didn't adore Ithaca 🙁

This is the fourth time for a cornell rejection for me too. One for undergrad, twice for transfer, and then this time for vet school. I have no idea why I keep coming back, either. I really do love ithaca, and while thie tour this summer at the vet school was a slight let-down, I still love cornell. It would have been a great program for me, and the tuition and location wouldn't have been that bad for me either...but I guess its not the program for me( or so I try and tell myself).

Congrats to all who got in. I wish you all the best of luck, especially those still waiting (like me) to hear anything from their remaining schools.

Congrats to everyone who got in to Cornell! I'm planning on applying there in a couple years, and hope to get out there this summer to see the campus

Its definitely looking that way, being that I'm IS and Cornell is just an all-around good school. Of course I have awhile to make my final decision...so im definitely going to one of those information sessions so I can really weigh the pros and cons of both schools. You've got quite the tough decision to make too...Cornell, Tufts and Upenn, have you settled on Cornell?

Ditto here too. Why do they hate me so? This will be the fourth time I've been rejected by them...once for undergrad, once to transfer in, and now 2x for vet school. Even more importantly, why do I keep coming back for more. If only I didn't adore Ithaca 🙁

That got me thinking. I've collected quite a few rejections from UCDavis as well - 3 for PhD programs and 1 for DVM, so 4. I did get this MS program acceptance, but I could get as many as 3 rejections from UCD this year total (PhD, DVM, VSTP)! So I could theoretically have 7 rejections from one school and 1 acceptance. I don't know what to think of that.

Yep, big fat rejection here too. 🙁

Congrats to everyone who got in!

Nyanko, does that make you a champion loser? 😛

Glad to hear that fate has decided for you in the way you had hoped! See SOMETIMES things actually work out OK.

For the rest of you who got yesses, AWESOME! It is a great feeling huh. 😍 I myself would be there now if they would have let me just do the DVM. I still have twinges of regret, but I know the gal who I think got my PhD slot, and she deserved it more than me anyhow. I still have twinges of regret though. Oh well, no looking back.

Chapelle: did you apply to the DVM/PhD there and hear no news or something?

I don't get why you are asking a million questions when you won't share any of your own info here.

For what it's worth, I got the same status page/email that others got with a DVM rejection, and heard nothing about the dual degree in particular but just assume that a rejection from DVM = no longer considered for DVM/PhD.

edit: You know what, I'm in a poor mood so I'm just going to say it - I think it is really lame to be here and try to get information out of people without giving back at all.

haha, come to think of it, i was waitlisted for my undergrad there as well. i gave them a big fat FU then... hmmm... i think i've matured a bit since, but i wished i'd remembered that before applying for vet school! i'm generally a nice person, but once i hold a grudge i can be kind of vindictive :meanie:.

Well it certainly makes me some sort of loser. :meanie:

I would love to be the biggest loser! maybe not the "before," but the "after" must be very satisfying.

nyan - sorry it didn't work out, but i'm sure it just means that you were meant for davis!!!

Sorry 🙁...I'm very much willing to provide any information that might help others but I don't think my acceptance/interview status falls into that category.

hey,

if you dont already know, cornell has an open house in mid-april that you should check out. its really entertaining and you learn a lot about the school! if you're thinking about going to cornell, thats a great way to learn a little more!

I have no idea!!! I LOVE penn and tufts, but I have never been to Cornell. I have been to Ithaca, and it's cute but SO out there! I live in Manhattan now and Ithaca seems like the middle of nowhere to me.

I'm going out to the first info session. I kind of feel like if I don't dislike it, it will be hard to justify the extra $60K in loans it will take to go to one of the other two, but if I DO dislike it, I'm glad I have other options I love!

I hear ya, since I grew up LI and then did my undergrad in Boston, i'm a little afraid of being isolated from everything! I did an internship right outside Ithaca last summer (I worked on Cornell's teaching and research farms) and once you leave Ithaca, its literally all farmlands. However Ithaca itself looks like a cute place to live...maybe we can do with a little change in scenery 😀? I'll probably be attending the first info session too, hope to see you there!

I GOT IN! best news ever! truly a dream come true and 23 years in the making 😍 see you all there!

I am IS for Cornell so I will definitely be going. I haven't been to the campus but I guess that is what the info session is for. I can't wait to meet all of you future cornell vets!

BTW I went to Cornell for undergrad and did research at the vet school for 3 years so I'm up for trying to answer any questions you wonderful people may have before Feb. 🙂
