Quick question, peeps.

I'm mentioning a ob-gyn practice in my personal statement as part of my experience. Is there a "proper" way of citing it (i.e., should I put "obstetrics and gynecology practice" or should "Ob-Gyn practice" suffice? If so, should I use all caps (OB-GYN) or small caps? Is it a dash in between or a slash? Sorry if I'm nitpicking. Just wanna make sure.

Thanks in advance!

A quick check of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) reveals that they use the abreviation "Ob-Gyn." Thus, I would do as they do.

Good luck with your personal statement! :luck:

If you're not struggling to keep your PS below the character limit (good luck with that one), I recommend not using the abbreviation. That would certainly alleviate your concern about whether or not it is appropriate - can't go wrong with it.

Best of luck to you!

I think that it sounds better spelled out. You should also probably avoid using abbreviations since it's formal writing.

So to answer your question, you should put "obstetrics and gynecology practice".

on the other hand, if you run up against the character limitation, no adcom member I know has ever slighted an applicant for using Ob-gyn or OB-GYN. It is a common enough abbreviation that even lay people use it.
