Alrighty here we go again,

Back in the fall I made one of these and got a variety of feedback on what I should do in my last few months before the primaries. Here’s what I decided.

1.) Retaking my 510
2.) Adding different research experiences
3.) Rural interests

Last time I was told I got mixed reviews on whether or not I should retake my MCAT, which I interpreted as, “better just suck it up and do it”. Given this, how should I construct my school list? Do I wait to apply to schools until after I get my new score? Need a lot of help still. Y’all are awesome.

GPA: 4.0
MCAT 1: 510
MCAT 2: in May, score comes back in early June, (I’m confident it will be better based off of signs so far)
Undergraduate: Public University in Missouri
ORM
Clinical (paid) 911 EMT with my University Hospital. I work weekends and night shifts, 12 and 24 hours shifts. Brutal/Awesome work.
900 hours including my clinicals from training.

Clinical (volunteering)
1.) mission trips to Central America. Setting up clinics/pharmacies. 50 hours
2.) Community clinic, underserved/uninsured local Missouri community 50 hours
Non-clinical volunteer: Ronald McDonald Charities 220 hours
2.) Nursing homes- I play piano/cello for my local nursing homes regularly on my school breaks, and on weekends when I’m home.

Research
Ortho: 1050 hours
Published 2 abstracts in international society abstract magazines. Presented posters for those abstracts in Phoenix and LA.
2nd author on 2 more abstracts also published/presented at same conference.
2nd author on an abstract published in a medical student interest group journal. (Not my own university med school)
Urology: 30 hours
Just got IRB approved, I’ll be working on this during my gap year along with clinical.
Oncology: 30, this is all clinical, work with med students at my university. 2nd author on abstract pending approval for multiple different organizations.

Shadowing: 150 hours. Primary care, EM, urology, gen surgery, ortho, radiology

Music: I play part-time for one the professional symphonies in MO. I also play for my Uni Philharmonic, teach private music lessons, compose, gig, etc. I am a music major, and it was why I originally came to collage to do before switching to med.

Other. Mentor for summer school program to help underserved MO middle schoolers. Last summer I did it in my home town, and this upcoming summer I’ll be doing it at an extremely remote location to help me engage with the rural MO communities more.

I also have plans to become a FTO to help train new EMT/medics on our service.

Let me know what y’all think. I am especially interested in figuring out how to approach the primary with an mcat score that I won’t get till June.
