Well I have to say that maybe I procrastinated for too long and am now wondering if I am going to pass the written boards. I heard that the bottom 30th percentile fails? Seems a bit extreme but I've heard this multiple times.

Anyway I was wondering if the people who took it last year can give me an idea of what their actual percentile score was compared to the percentile predicted by ophthoquestions (under the section "my performance").

Thanks!

You have to be cautious with predictions. If you did lousy at first but better later, then the ophthoquestions percentile is not accurate. Also if you remember your mistakes and the concepts learned, if doesn't matter if you scored in the 1st percentile (almost a zero).

I would say that if you scored in the 35th percentile (or even 30th), you will pass. If you scored lower, you will also pass if you learn from your mistakes and learned those concepts.

I dont think you get a percentile score on the boards, you just get a random number and im not even sure what the max is

You do get a score that is more than a random number. 500 is supposed to be average. The passing score varies but is about 400. The maximum is probably about 800, but theoretically may be 999. They don't do a good job explaining the score and might be trying to hide the methodology. It has to do something with standard deviations and getting within one standard deviation of the mean or higher.
