Really? One of my college roommates dated a guy for 5 years. He wouldn't sleep with her because he wanted them both to be virgins on their wedding night. It was a LD relationship, and after 5 years of living out of a suitcase most weekends, she'd been asked out by someone local, and, feeling deprived of male company, wanted to go. Out of loneliness and feeling flattered more than actual interest in the guy. They went to dinner and that was the end of it. Her bf then dumped her one week later for the girl he asked out in revenge. He married that girl, and I'm fairly certain they did NOT wait.

Oh yeah, and her bf had just purchased the engagement ring he was going to give her.

Edited to add: happy ending--she got her PhD in neuroscience, which she had just started at the time, and is now happily married to someone else, who likes her for who she is instead of trying to make her over into his ideal of a wife.

wow that sucks--her bf was a bastard to take "revenge" like that. i guess in my case it's OK cause we BOTH want to wait...it's not like we have some obsession with virginity or premarital sex, but we want to wait until we are more confident in our commitment, i guess. whether thats before or after marriage, who knows.

when the decision is not mutual as in your friends case that can be tough...especially when one is psycho about purity. (THAT is the sort of attitude that really makes me TICK).

No, actually, they were both OK with it. Although in her case it was more out of respect for his values than because of her own. And in his defense, he is also very happily married to the girl he asked out. He was probably attracted to her for a while, and held back because of his relationship with my friend. So you can see how it might piss him off that my friend did not hold back in a similar fashion.

In the end, I think it was just a matter of them not being right for each other. His friends really didn't like her, and he didn't like any of her friends other than myself. It was just a mismatch from the beginning, and I knew it was going to end long before it actually did--engagement ring or not. Her decision to go back to school for the PhD made their plans for the future incompatible, and it was just a matter of time before it blew up in some fashion.

I warned her before she went out with the other guy that LD relationships that aren't exclusive usually don't work. But she was so unhappy in the relationship, and it was obvious to everyone but her. So I know I wasn't a good friend about pushing her toward the choice that would preserve it. But I think the right thing happened in the end, as difficult as it was for them and everyone who knew them.

This thread reminds me of the SEINFELD episode where George practiced abstinence and he became a demigod of knowledge. I thought it was hilarious. In the same episode, a guy elaine was dating kept flunking his USMLE board exam until elaine withheld sex from him. Then, he passed the exam. The funny thing is that after he passed his boards he dumped elaine.

I think that episode hit the mark. Think about it, how many 4.0 or honors people do you know that get a lot of @SS. Doubtful. There is an inverse correlation of GPA and Number of Partners. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, but these are rare.

Lastly, I think a lot of guys would like to date a virgin. The reason being that "virgins" still give oral action. Playboy did a poll once, and 3 out of 4 guys prefer oral over the real thing. Let's not be naive, virgin girls can tie a cherry stem with their tongue( i.e. lots of practice😉 ).


Two questions I ask to girls.

1. Do you go to church? i.e. do you practice premarital sex
2. What's your GPA? i.e. are you promiscuous.

Most BOOKSMART people think the former questions are innocent, but they offer a lot of information!!!

The honest approach is the best approach. Believe it or not. There are alot of girls that are willing to have "booty" calls. The key is show your cards.

I abhor men that "lie" to get in a girl's pants. If you are honest that you are not looking for anything serious, more girls than you think will be willing to have just sex.
