Hello everyone and happy new year!

I've been using the Stryker RFA machine and probes for the last 10 years both in and outside of training. Great results, no complications, etc.

Recently, we have the opportunity to get a COSMAN RFA machine and components. They have a needle set up called "Sidekick" which is essentially the Stryker RFA. In addition, I was always hesitant to use Cosman as they arent as widely used for RFA as Stryker was---even thought Cosman himself was one of the pioneers of RFA.

What's reassuring is that Boston Scientific(who's neuromodulation dept has been great with support for me) and their reps will be supporting as they now own Cosman.

What are people's experiences with the Cosman device. It just seems so comparable to the Stryker box, but at a fraction of the cost. I dont see any downside. Thoughts?

Thanks

I used to have a stryker that crapped out and went to cossman. Cossmans great , no issues, good support

Just trialed a Cosman system in our office. Didn’t notice a significant difference vs Stryker other than the significant difference in cost. Didn’t like the feel of the sidekick needles quite as much as venom but I could get used to them - it’s got a sharper angle. On the other hand, you don’t have to have special venom probes. Cosman uses the same probes for either needle type. Right now apparently their Nitinol probes are being redesigned, so if you buy Nitinol probes, they give you stainless steel, and then when the Nitinol are approved they will send those plus you get to keep the stainless.

I heard the probe thing. Is that confirmed? They have been telling me that for the past year..have given up on it

That is according to the sales rep so take it for what it’s worth. He wasn’t sure when they would be approved but said it would be at least several more months. He did say if people had issues with the stainless probes while waiting for the Nitinol they ordered they’d probably send a few extra sets of stainless to make up for it.

My probes have been fine, what problems have people been having with them ?

Had a Cosman at last job and loved it. I dislike Stryker multigen and venom, like driving a pinto after being used to a Ferrari, and the venom are more painful with lesioning, unless you infiltrate large amounts in a 360 before, but they still tend to hurt a bit. Didn’t try the sidekick, I just channeled my inner Bogduk and used a 16G, so I can’t compare that to Venom. Cannula is siliconized and smooth like butter. Nitinol proves have been in the process of reengineering since I got it in July 2017, and apparently not done yet. Had a single stainless crap out in the 1 year I used it and they replaced it for free. Try to get them to let you demo one and see what you think.

I just channeled my inner Bogduk and used a 16 - how sedated are your patients?

About 18 months ago Cosman (Boston scientific) recalled the nitinol proved due to one case of blood residue on the probe. Apparently they are redisgning the probe to prevent this?
I love Cosman. Affordable and haven’t had any issues other than this probe recall

i like cosman but the service has gone down hill with BS takeover. Takes forever to get probes repaired now.
