Hi i am in my second year and will be starting 3rd year in less then 2 month.
During the last 2 weeks, we have been introduced to cosmetic lab sessions and I have realized I love the work!
I have starting researching about it and realized that there is no specialization in this field as ADA does not recognize it as a specialty, rather incorporates aesthetics as an obvious requirement of any dental procedure.
I registered for the AACD yesterday. Can anyone give me some information about how I can know more about this field, is there a website, is anyone pursuing a certification etc in cosmetics?..

Thankyou

The American academy of cosmetic dentistry is having there annual meeting in Texas this year at the end of April 2010. They have a lot of great CE courses that help a lot with understanding and seeing more esthetic cases. They have dental student pricing which is great. I'm a dental student and will be going so if you need more info feel free to send me a message. good luck

You must be a dentist and a member of AACD for several years before you can sit for the fellowship exam which includes case presentations. Dental school cases would not count as they are supervised.
AACD as well as several other organizations give excellent CE courses in cosmetics, which incorporates several disciplines of dentistry. You are correct that there is no recognized specialty in cosmetics, as well as implantology, two hot topics.

Greetings,

Cosmetic Dentistry is not a recognized dental specialty although the term "specialist in cosmetic dentistry" is thrown around the Yellow Pages and on the Web left and right. It is simply an area of dentistry that focuses on "cosmetics" , i.e " nice white smile". DP
