So I am fiendishly debating between schools and have a question for all of you. Once controlling for all other variables and attempting to compare based on cost, how does everyone compare costs of schools... I come from a state that doesn't have a D-school and doesn't have agreements with other states so it's all out of state and private school's for this cat.

I know some cities are more expensive yadda yadda but I think I can consider personal expenses relatively void of drastic change from one school to the other because I will live the same, eat the same, etc.
Or at least just for the sake of comparision let's consider them void.....

None of the schools seem to present numbers the same way. Some include loupes some don't, some give ranges, some give estimates, some include insurance, medical personal, etc. I just don't feel comfortable eliminating everything except tuition and comparing based solely on tuition... for example one school gave a range of 800-8000 for instruments? Really 7200 range? Another listed instruments as 11,000 but that included loupes and a laptop first year (one time purchases I hope). School A's tuition is 7,500 less than school B but after four years will School B cost 30k extra or more/less???

Just curious to see what others are considering when attempting to compare apples for apples. all input is valued. thanks all

This isn't the best group to ask. It really depends on what the individual is looking to get out of dental school. Try asking the Dental Students who are actually Dental Students. Our guess is as good as yours.

Or search the forum. There has been plenty of debate on the subject.

Well, when you have to relocate from your home state, the most important option for "cheaper" school goes is......

which of the two states allows you to change your tution to in-state? and possibly, significantly reducing your tuition (fyi, this doesn't really work with private schools). Example is Buffalo, live in the buffalo area for 1 year, and you can change your status to in-state and cutting your tuition in half for years 2, 3, & 4.

I've noticed that a lot of schools that previously allowed out-of-state residents to become in-state after a year have either changed their policies or a state law has been enacted to stop this. I'm curious if you, or anyone else for that matter, has a good idea of which schools (aside from Buffalo) still allow residency to be obtained even for tuition purposes? Perhaps those who have been accepted within the last year or two...
