Hello everyone. I just sent in my application this past week for this cycle, but I could use some advice on a class I am taking right now. I graduated in May, and since graduating have been retaking pre-reqs I recieved C+'s in, in order to improve my Pre-req GPA. Unfortunately, I have been a little over my head lately (working 2 jobs, studying for GRE, filling out countless applications) and as a result, did not do very well on the first exam in my Physics I course. Leaving me with the decision to either drop the course or stick with it and hope for the best. I emailed my professor with my concerns and the fact that I felt fairly comfortable with all the material (There was one question I blanked on worth 15 pts) but the rest of the test I did well on. I calculated a "hypothetical" grade to see what I would need to achieve the rest of the semester to receive an A, and it is pretty daunting. If he isn't able to work with me on getting an A, I feel it doesn't do me much good to take the course and end up with the highest grade of a B (the CC is on a 10 point scale and there is no +/-) seeing as I have already passed the course with a C+ at my graduating university. Any advice would be appreciated!

You may want to meet with the professor in person to discuss your concerns. Withdrawal is always an option so that may be good to speak with him/her about. Sometimes professors will be more lenient with late withdrawals.

I don't know all of your school specifics...however, if this is a retake class and you have already applied, most schools won't even consider this grade (only exception is if they do not look at applications until January or later.). If they make admission decisions before that, again, they won't even use this grade and it should have no weight on your decision. In my mind, there doesn't seem to be a big reason to retake this class now unless it's in preparation for later school deadlines or to apply for the next cycle.

You are correct. I am applying to a number of schools some that will not be considering this course, but others that have late deadlines and will. I am taking these courses for the schools with later deadlines, and also to improve my application for next cycle. I don't say that because I'm not confident in my application, but because I know the reality of having an average GPA that may not be as competitive as I would hope. I just want to do the best I can, I know there is still hope for a B in this Physics course, but as I said before there is no (+/-) at this school. I either get an A or a B, and I already received a C+ in Physics I. I am just unsure how a grade replace with a grade of anything lower than the A range would look to a admissions committee.
