there might be two things going on. there's no history of bisphosphinates or radiation so osteonecrosis of the jaw is out, 3 days is too soon for osteomyelitis; alveolar osteitis or "dry socket" is clearly present (bone exposed in socket, severe throbbing pain, bad odor, foul taste) but the sore throat and submandibular swelling are signs of infection and are not associated with dry socket. check for fever, cellulitis, erythema, and swollen lymph nodes, take x-ray for retained root fragments. if root fragments are present they should be removed and area debrided, if fever, cellulitis, swollen lymph nodes: a board spectrum antibiotic is indicated (pen VK, amoxicillin, etc). if submandibular swelling is minor, no root tips, no fever, complaint of sore throat might not be reliable and antibiotics aren't indicated, and it's just dry socket: gentle irrigation with sterile saline & place iodoform gauze with eugenol, change dressing every other day for next 3-6 days depending on severity, once pain is decreased no need to replace dressing
