Unfortunately I got beaten to the punch with MJ, but now that there's been a couple, I feel okay about going ahead and posting anyway. I feel especially compelled to do so because someone brought Cleveland into the mix

I realize how ignorant I sound asking about this, seeing as though i'm an applicant this year.
When exactly is match day?
the nrmp website/timeline confused me
- lists the 16th noon as when all info is posted to website
- lists the 19th as match day.
Which is which?
- how can people begin to scramble on the 17th if the day-before was not the official match day?
Am i to understand that those who are UNMATCHED find out a few days earlier than those who match?!
Please shed some light.

May 16th: All those registered with NRMP receive an email stating whether they've matched or not (no specifics). Those unmatched begin the scramble.
May 19th: All those who've matched find out the specific program at which they've matched.

Exactly.
You find out IF you matched on the 16th, and WHERE you matched on the 19th.
That way, even if you scrambled, you can get your match day envelope like everyone else... and no one has to know that you didn't match.
So, first...OK...WOW! You're in the middle of it and you don't get the most basic part of the Match. Good luck to you next year.
Monday 3/16 is when applicants find out if they matched and programs find out if they filled. If you matched, you go back to drinking heavily until Thursday 3/19. That's Match Day where people find out where they matched and programs find out who matched to their program.
So yes, people who didn't Match find out first that they didn't Match, then get a few days to scramble for a spot in order to pretend on Match Day that they Matched.
