I was wondering how you guys would go about logging research hours for independent projects. I'm just about to start my own study so I know there's a lot of time spent on background reading and preparation and then later on there's a lot of time spent writing up the paper on the study... Would you try to quantify these hours or solely count hours doing lab work/conducting the experiment?

I would count all of the hours spent working on it as a whole. You can always specify how many hours were spent doing each thing in the description section!

Agreed. If you are doing this as school-related work, ask your advisor/mentor what to do.They will know better than us.
If you are doing it by yourself, then just specify how many hours are spent doing what.
Good luck!!!

Doing background readings and writing are certainly important aspects of scientific research and you should count them.

Cool, thanks guys. It just seemed weird to count this stuff all in vet experience so I was doubting myself for a second! 😳
