when should i start requesting a transcript from my university? i want to have my app in asap. should i ask for it now before the app is even available?

and i'm looking through the official guide to dental schools, and there are some schools im interesting in that have required courses like anatomy and microbiology that i haven't taken. can i take them after i apply and say i'll take it senior year? or do i just not apply for these schools?

you can request for a transcript to be sent to AADSAS once you have your transcript matching form which is available on june 3rd. if you really want to start ahead of time, have your LORs ready at your school career center so you can send them off once the app is out.

you can't have anything sent to AADSAS unless you get your AADSAS ID number (that's the only way they will match your forms). for the classes, you can still take while you apply, it just won't be counted in for gpa calculation until the class is done. i.e., a lot of people take upper division courses to raise their science GPA, but since that isn't the case for you, it won't make a big difference. as long as you have your classes done before the admission (fall 2011), you'll be fine. you just need to indicate the courses in progress.

plus, it seems like you're taking your DAT in mid-july and LORs will be ready at the END of july? (according to your other posts)

okay. here's the thing. AADSAS app will not be available for you to fill out and submit on the day it comes out (june 3rd). once your transcript is sent, they need time to process to re-generate your GPA according to their system.

if you're taking your DAT in mid-july, then it will take 2 weeks from that point for the scores to be reported officially. uptil last year, we were supposed to send the scores directly to your designated schools, but starting this year AADSAS is going to take care of it which i believe is also gonna take around 2 weeks? hopefully using the DENTPIN will ease the process here.

If your LORs are going to be ready in late july, I believe it will take 3-5 business days for the letters to arrive to AADSAS unless you're going to have the professors submit them electronically.

what i'm trying to say here is that you DO NOT need to worry about submitting your transcript even before the app is out, b/c your app won't be ready no matter what. you can still submit your application without the LOR and DAT scores, but the schools won't even look at your application once everything is in. your file will be in a stack of "hold" applications.

so no need to rush since most of your application materials are missing at this point.
