Hello Everyone,
Made a new account to maintain some anonymity. I have a few questions regarding couples match that hopefully some of you could answer?
Background: My husband and I both attend the same medical school but are in different years. I'm an M3 and he is an M2. We both plan on pursuing non-competitive specialties (no ROAD or surgery).
Questions:
1. Is couples matching truly advantageous over, lets say, me just gunning for a big city and him following (this strategy worked for medical school)? The problem with this is that we are both interested in some smaller programs on the east coast (i.e. isolated hospitals), but we are definitely willing to make a go of it wherever (I would just forfeit applying to such programs).
2. Is couples matching harder if we both end up wanting to pursue the same specialty (even if it is going to be a less-competitive specialty)?
3. If I was to take a year off for research or an MBA (I have already taken the GRE and there are MBA programs in my area that waive the GMAT), would I be better off taking the year off after my third year or my fourth year? Some people say I should have taken it after my second, but I wanted to get my third year done and over with.
We are both older so taking a year off would truly have to be worth it. The number one goal is staying together. We own furniture, children, and animals together, lol.
