Hey guys I am currently a sophomore at 4 year college:
I am taking the following classes:
Organic 1 with Lab 4 Cr
Genetics with Lab 5 Cr
Intro Ethics 4Cr
English 101 4 Cr
Law and society 2 Cr
Total 19 Credits

Right now i am having hard time in my genetics class. I failled the first exam and there three more exam coming up. The highest grade i could possibly get is B- after getting 100s on all the test.

My question is that should i drop this class and focus on other classes?
And If i do drop it, how bad will it look for the pharmacy school( Maryland pharmacy school and UMES).

Also this will be my first withdrawal and i have taken 34 credits at community college last year and gotten A in all classes. And i transferred to this college this year and decided to take maximum credit load.

Thank you guys for answering me.

Personally, I think it would look better if you pulled off the C or B than if you ditched the course. Pharmacy schools are looking for candidates who can make it through a very rigorous curriculum. You aren't just taking O-Chem and Genetics with another fluff class or two, and I think they'd understand that.

I'd stay with it. Besides, if you don't do it now, you'll eventually have to make it up.

Hello j2k9000.

I am here to stop spreading the misconceptions that bound on SDN that I too fell prey to when I was preparing myself for pharmacy applications.

I doubt anyone will say, "hey when j2k9000 took blah blah blah his fall 2010 semester, we see he withdrew from genetics. This goes in the DUMP pile then, we can't accept it."

Wrong! They won't say that. I had 5 W's in my academic career. However, I also have a 3.89 GPA. I am going toward having 150 college credits total due to my non-science major. No one asked me about my Ws, no one cared, and I was accepted.

Please, if you feel you can't handle it this semester (underestimated your other classes, whatever) then just drop. No one's gonna put a gun to your head and ask you about it. The only sucky thing is that you have to do it later and you might regret not taking it because later your semester might be fuller than you want. But thats it! I also started off at comm college and no one asked me about that either.

(btw I was valedictorian at my high school. so a few W's says nothing about your academic character...unlike what SDNers have to say)

Good luck!!

If you have the money, go ahead and drop the course. The time and money you have to spend to make it up isn't worth it. I would rather take the C and get on with my life.

thank you guys for your advice.
I may just keep that class and possibly get a C+ or B-.

I have 4 Ws on my transcript and I was accepted to the schools you are applying to...
