I thought I need to take general bio, chem, organic chem and physcis with their labs.
I just went to VCU dental school website and found out that they require 3 credits from biochemistry.

is it just VCU? or did all of you take biochemistry before taking DAT?
I wonder if bio major student needs to take biochemistry course.

oh and do u guys know about D5 program that allows students to take first year of dental school and see if they can become a good dentist? It is for people who didn't get accepted. I wonder if VCU is the only school that has this kinda nice program 🙂

You need to take Biochem for admissions into several schools, including VCU, but you don't need to take it before the DAT. You can take the DAT without taking any of the prereq courses if you want, you just need to have the prereqs, like biochem, done by the time you matriculate into dental school.

The D5 program is kinda unique. I've heard of it and it is cool cause the classes you take as a D5 get waived in your first year of dental school, but other schools have similar post-bac programs that help you prepare to reapply. the D5 program isn't a guarentee admist into the next year even if you do well.

Biochem is actually a required prereq at a lot of schools now. However, some allow you to take OrgII or Biochem. I took both because it was required for my degree... but if I had a choice I would do biochem. You won't use organic again (assuming you have already taken both semesters) after you take the DAT!
