Alright, I have quite a few hours at a CC. One from taking courses from while in High school. My "first year" I had surgery (explained this in personal statement) and went to the same CC because it was close to home, and to the rehab clinic I went to 3 times a week for six months. < also another reason I went there, my sister was there and had to drive me around post op for awhile. The next year (all healed up 😀) I transferred to another CC because of a track scholarship. Here is where I decided to go into medicine and started shadowing/studying ect.....On the plus side, my GPA is higher at the university than the CC, but more hours have been at CC. In part because when I go home, there is a CC very close and I took courses nearly every summer. ( nearest University is 5 Hr drive) Also note that I have taken upper division sciences and received A's at the University. Will this be an issue at all?

Probably not, especially since you performed well while you were there and took (and did well) in more advanced classes at a 4-yr institution. I've read mixed reviews about the perception of CC classes, but really, I'm starting to lean more on the side of it not making a difference. I wouldn't sweat it, and I doubt it will be received negatively by schools. If you want to double check about the validity of your CC work, particularly of premedical prerequisites, and whether it will be accepted at the school in which you intend to apply, you can check the admissions policy on academic requirements, which are usually readily available on the school's website, or you can contact the school's admissions office. I'd be pretty surprised if you had any problems, but I'm also not an adcom member at any school, so I'm not versed on any individual school's policy.

Thanks. I asked my advisor and she said it wouldnt be a problem because of my higher GPA especially in higher courses. Period. But I wanted to get some bright SDNs opinions. 👍

i think the general consensus is that you can take whatever you want to at a CC as long as you can prove you can hack it at a 4 year too.

The first things Adcoms will see is your science and overall GPA. If CC is an issue they will see that your performance improved at a university. You are in good shape. Good luck.

I have a decent number of CC classes and they have not been an issue. Out of 4 interviews, it only came up once and they just wanted to know what kind of school it was to make sure it wasn't just some random person "teaching" us, but that they were qualified in the topic. My CC requires a minimum of a Masters to teach, so that wasn't an issue.
