CPA-accredited internship in Canada and US licensure?

Does anyone have any insight about whether it impacts the ability to gain licensure in the US if one completes a CPA-accredited internship in Canada instead of an APA-accredited internship in the US? I recognize that this may be a state-by-state issues, but any information you have would be helpful. Thanks!

Generally speaking, there is reciprocity between the countries. however, you must make sure you meet whatever specific state requirements, which often go above and beyond simply attending an accredited internship.

Also, why would you want to move here? Have you seen the dumpster fire that currently is the core of our national governing body?

Maybe NeuroJaguar wants more FREEDOM, BALD EAGLES, and GUNS in their life? Maybe free healthcare sounds boring to them and they want to roll the dice with their health coverage! Maybe...and this is pure conjecture...they want to MMGA (Make ‘Murica Great Again) and that’s just not possible to do from a place where they have so many personal freedoms and a stable government.

The internship imbalance has been worse in Canada historically over the past few years, as they have a much smaller pool of applicants and of internship spots, so it's harder to make movement in any direction. But, when APA and CPA stopped joint accreditation a few years back, they agreed on something called the First Street Accords, which is a mutual recognition agreement that APA recognizes CPA accreditation as equivalent to APA (and vice versa). It might mean you need to jump through a few extra hoops at the state level to demonstrate its equivalence, but I don't imagine it'd be insurmountable.

The imbalance wasn't so very grim last year, all but 9 Canadians (~5%, about equivalent to the overall stats) matched between Phase I/II and I've heard through the grapevine that at least a couple more found spots in the post-match vacancy service. Most Canadian sites give preference to Canadian applicants, though, so I think the hardest part would be breaking into the Canadian market as a non-Canadian. Some sites comment specifically that they don't accept applicants without Canadian citizenship. You might want to through brochures a little bit early to gauge how many you can actually apply for, NeuroJaguar, and also keep US sites on your list.
