My school doesn't teach things like CPR and suturing during basic sciences. Should I take a 4 hour course on CPR before I start rotations or will I learn this stuff in 3rd yr?

You'll probably do it in orientation. If not, check to make sure that it's not required before matriculation.

Check with your school. Mine required us to show proof of AHA Basic Life Support training at registration.

Your school should be doing it, especially before 3rd year.

With that said, if you're the one running the code, then an acute state of badness has already set in, given that the usual outcome of CPR even among really well trained critical care people is pretty poor

If all else fails, find a willing professor to teach you things like suturing. I learned how to suture and lots more from a retired surgeon who taught in the anatomy lab.
