Eh...I just took my first Crack DAT PAT test...I made an 18...but I went over the time limit by 20 minutes! :wow:

My test is this Thursday August 4th...what should I do to get better at PAT?
I got 7/15 TFE, and 8/15 Angles. Yikes.

Don't worry, you can do it.

Start taking each test untimed and try to train your brain to think perceptually. Once you start getting the hang of it, then take the tests timed.

I was in the same boat with TFE when I started CDP. So I took step back and went through the painful process of learning how to visualize the shapes in 3-D (instead of relying on tricks) before looking at answer choices. After you visualize it, then eliminate answer choices that are wrong and then focus on the details on the possible ones. I went from getting 8/15 to now getting 14/15 to 15/15.

With angles, there's no method. Just concentrate on mastering the other topics which will compensate for angle deficiencies.

I know practicing CDP for a long time could get very tiring...so during your breaks play these perceptual ability games 🙂

As LetsGo said, don't worry about the 18. Actually that's what majority of people get on the first exam. I remember I started with like a 17 or an 18 on the first test and I got better by every test and I was scoring 20+ on the last 5 tests. On the real DAT I got a 24. So don't get discouraged with the early low scores and trust me CDP works!

Just do two a day. Its an easily acquired mindset... other than angles.

This may work for you as it has for me: try doing CDP while listening to Mozart. There's some theory out there called the Mozart Effect that seems apply to learning perceptual ability.

Thats so funny. I've been doing that since I started PAT. But I usually listen to Chopin or Mahler. It's weird, I require absolute silence when I'm studying for anything, but for some reason PAT is different. I think I started doing that because I used to hate PAT and sitting there with just my own thought was driving me mad.

And the speed/beat of Mozart music keeps me on pace to finish a PAT test on time. Otherwise, I move too slow. I just hope I don't grow a dependency on it for test day.

You won't. You may hear it in your head though....👍

Damn. I've been listening to Mozart while going over the Keyholes...I can't believe I missed so many of them yesterday! The music is definitely helping...coupled with CDP's provided "Explanations."
Seriously, why do I feel like some of the Keyhole Explanations on CDP are...a bit fabricated? Does anyone else feel like the shape in the Explanation is a bit different than the shape given to you?
I hope it's not like this on the real DAT.

if your struggling with certain sections I think its definitely worthwhile to tackle those sections by themselves with a minute or two extra time (11-12 minutes instead of 10) instead of continually trying one hour tests after another
