Hey everyone,
Ok so I thought I had things all figured out for what school I want to go to but now I'm starting to second guess my thought process. I didn't like NYU too much before(really expensive and big class size) but everyone I talk to keeps bringing up the intangibles of new york city. I think I was set on Case for a while but I am still concerned about the program and if it will be effective because of its relatively new status there. I liked Case from what I can remember but give NYU the upperhand on facilities by just a slight nod. Cost I think for NYU is understimated just because I was in NY twice now and let me tell you practically breathing there costs money. Finally my last real consideration is VCU of all the schools all the dentists I have spoken to have really really recommended VCU and talked up the clinical to be fantastic. That being said I wasn't really in love with Richmond but then again I am not really in love with Cleveland either. I am so grateful for the opportunity to pick from these great programs but I'm not sure now whats the best thing for later possibly specializing, which ones the students are nice and not uber-competitive, and which ones have the best clinical. Please just hit me up with your thoughts, especially if you chose one of these schools what you think, better yet if you go there.
Thanks!!

VCU! awesomeeeee clinic and the students are super super nice..along w/ the faculty

would you be in-state at VCU?

i would def go to VCU if i were instate....but i'm not

VCU out of state still has to be cheaper than NYU and probably CASE too.

This thread is offensive.

You really shouldn't rub it in how many acceptances you have. Some poeple don't have any yet. And if this were ihd posting this thread he would get bashed for being a snot.

I would go with Case over those 2. Case has a charming little community surrounding it. NYU has nothing charming about its community and Richmond is a hole.

I don't think Naj118 is trying to rub his acceptances into anybodies face. He is simply asking for others opinions. I sat on the sideline for two years watching others earn acceptances while I didn't, and not one time did I sulk and pout because somebody else EARNED an acceptance. Congrats naj, wish I could help you but I didn't apply to those schools.

personally, i don't think the community around Case is really all that great. Yes CWRU is located right across the street and the med school is right next door, but all that you can do within walking distance is that small strip of eateries on euclid...and if you have a car you can go to conventry (but it's another small strip). you go a few more blocks and you're in the ghetto. even though case is a good school, i think quality of life (i.e. not such a happening downtown area, bars, etc) should considered. no we're not going to have a lot of money to spend or a lot of free time, but heck we're going to be there for 4 years! maybe im just biased since im a NYer. im sorry if im offending anyone with my cleveland opinion. good luck tho 🙂

I don't really follow how this justifies that it's fine to pay the added amount of NYU. Sure, the city is expensive, but other cities aren't, and their schools aren't either.

Now if it's the only place you'll be happy, definitely go there. But just keep in mind that I know several dentists who went to NYU, and those that took out the full loans and are doing the 30-year repayment will be paying over $2000/month for 30 years!😱 Any student who says this isn't a big difference is in huge denial, as you'll realize if you ask any graduate.

Just a warning to not be too dismissive of such a huge price tag, if that's your only factor...

Start a poll, and let SDN decide.

yea NYU costs a buttload..but i'm still looking foward to going..that is, assuming I dont get taken off the waitlists at 4 other schools...It does offer a lot of advantages, I'm just glad I got the Air Force Scholarship...let Uncle Sam pay for it

IHD is taking this thread pretty well. I remember about four pages of hate posts on him for asking a similar type question.

Anyways, I say Case in a heartbeat.

I'm a big fan of NYU for two reasons:
1) I like the big class size. More opportunities to meet people/availability of school resources (it doesn't negatively affect your education, except maybe having to deal with large lecture halls)
2) NYC is the place to be. All of my friends are either there or in Boston and there's so much to do. Cost is a factor, yes, but all my friends are living there just fine -- and having a blast while doing it. How many times do you get the chance to be in your 20s living in New York City!!?? If you're not big into excitement then go to Cleveland. Apparently, it rocks.

Not only is Case loaded with new facilites, but it also a private school which means concentrated information and personalized teaching. 😉

agreed? So you're set on NYU then? I think that's where i'm probably going to end up. I dont see myself getting anymore interviews let alone taken off 4 waitlists. I'm not complaining though, I enjoyed NYU and a buddy of mine is a D1 there now.

dammit! Then why'd i even consider going to a public school??? 😛 😛 I thought the overgeneralized information and my profs forgetting my name was because I smelled!
