Hello,

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and am considering going into private practice eventually. I am trying to determine if my current medical credentialing by insurance panels would still apply if I leave the organization I work for. Does anyone have experience with this or know the answer? Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that if you currently bill for your services under a group practice or organizational NPI then you would need to re-credential with an individual NPI. If you already have an individual NPI you will need to update your practice location information, etc. In my experience insurance panels identify you primarily by your NPI and TaxID number, so those would need to be distinct from your current employer's. I hope this helps some, although depending on the state you practice in this may not be the full picture.
