Does anyone know what score range creditors like to see for credit-based student loans? I have found references stating that a 650-700 FICO is ok for home loans, but I can't find info for other types of loans. For instance, the education one student loan is credit based and can be pre-approved in a matter of minutes(according to the web site), so they have to be using a credit score system of some kind. I don't want to waste my time applying if my score is not up to par. Any insight would be appreciated.

I just applied for a couple of private loans and they said that to qualify for the "excellent" range, you need to have a credit score of 740 or over. This would qualify you for the lowest interest rate they have. If you have a lower credit score, you'll probably still qualify, just with a higher interest rate. BTW, are you going to Creighton next year?

Thanks for the insight, birdie. As far as Creighton goes, I have decided to attend KU. I really liked Creighton, but when it came down to the ~$19,000 difference in tuition and no scolarships from Creighton (I expect to have $2500-$8000 in scholarships at KU), the choice was easy. Sorry about leaving the Creighton reference in my signature, I have been meaning to change it. Good luck at Creighton (assuming that's where you'll be?).

Good Luck at KU! Did you ever find out anything about the criteria for Creighton's dean's scholarship? I'm aware that they've probably already awarded them, but I was curious to know what the criteria for them were.

Hey Birdie:
I never heard specifically what they were looking for for the Dean's. However, a current Creighton student posted on another thread that if you weren't a URM and coming out of creighton's undergrad or post-bacc, you could forget about the dean's. 🙁 Good luck to you!
