hi,

i don't go to creighton but i interviewed there two years ago. if i remember correctly, research isn't really very big at creighton. the hospital is right next to the dental school. things in omaha were pretty cheap. some of the students bought apartments/small houses rather than rent....i.e. a 100k would get u a nice house. food's pretty cheap too and i remember the cafeteria in the hospital served pretty decent food. students mentioned that some of the major businesses where located nearby in iowa, and the omaha airport was right next to iowa too. some of the businesses immediately arounde the med school looked broken down/closed...like an abandoned section of the town. if u're interviewing, make sure u're staying w/ a host that lives near the med school...the taxicab ride is less than $15. However, the host i stayed w/ had lived somewhere pretty far from creighton and couldn't drive me so i ended up paying like $45 for the friggin taxi ride! 😡 could have stayed in a hotel instead. it's been awhile...so what i remember might not be accurate/or might have changed.

I did some heavy duty partying there when I interviewed. The peeps there were pretty laid back and cool. I really felt at home there. I will be going to my state school where I am a little more comfortable though. Its good. The area around the school does feel broken down and ****. Like a shoddy old warehouse district. Anyhow, they still find ways ot have fun there. 👍

This question is a little too broad to answer. I'll try a little.

For me Creighton's greatest strength it its student body. We are a cohesive school. We help each other out, and even people who would not be friends in "real life" are friends.

The faculty is great with one or two exceptions. Research is present, but not in great quantities. There are funded opportunities in the summer, though, for those who wish to get paid. I don't know how to analyze the curriculum, since I have not experienced any other. The first year is more traditional bases--biochem, molecular and cellular biology, host defense. The second year is more organ based.

Omaha is OK. No it is a wild, crazy city but it is very livable and the cost of living is very low. Population is around 700,000 which means that it has a the feel of a midsized city, but you don't have to drive far to get to corn fields. I am happy here, personally.

I agree that the Creighton neighborhood is not the best, but I don't spend that much time on Campus outside of class. I think that the neighborhood is really on a factor if you want to live within walking distance. That said, there are apartments nearby that are fine.

Yogi's hosting story is atypical. Those that host ususally are responsible for picking up at the airport, getting the student to the interview, and making sure that they make it back to the airport. I don't know what happened in Yogi's case.

If you have any specific question that haven't been answered in other threads, ask away.

Creighton's a nice school (love my classes), but Omaha winters are horrendous. I am soooooo outta here as soon as I'm done with med school.
