I keep wondering why there isn't an active forum for reading members' writings that have relevance to the process. There are forums for this at the bottom of the forum list page, but they haven't been activated or something. I just think it would be really great to be able to pop in there and review other people's questions or ask my own. Also a centralized location for PS editing requests would be perfect for earlier in the process. Just a thought... 😕
Regardless, I'd really appreciate a quick opinion on what I've written in response to Creighton wanting to know why I've applied to their school. I think it's pretty good, but it's the first question I've come across thus far and I am concerned about the ending. TIA 😀

"I have given considerable thought and exploration...medical school."

Honest feedback. . . nothing personal.

It looks to me that you just read the website and highlighted Creighton. I would modify it somewhat to discuss-why Creighton and why Omaha.

Creighton likes to admit students that really want to go here. If you can come up with reasons that you would go here, aside from the curriculum alone, I think that is an advantage. Every applicant loves every curriculum, right?

Have you been to Omaha?
Have you spent much time in the Midwest?
Do you like cold winters?

That kind of stuff. . . There's nothing wrong with discussing what you like about the curriculum, just give them other reasons.

Also, I'd leave out the "while I don't have that much experience." line. Highlight what you have, and let them decide if its "that much."

Dude, take this down. Somebody may copy it, and that would look really bad on you. If you want, I'll still critique it though. Give me a minute to read it.

Okay, here are my 2 cents. I agree with the first reply, sounds like you don't really understand Creighton. I do have some advice though -- As a Creighton undergraduate student, I can tell you from experience that Creighton is super into its Jesuit identity. How do you relate to those ideals?

I think it was lame, you just listed off a bunch of facts....why a jesuit school, ethical standards? Also, Omaha! Why do you want to live in a small conservative town 😱

I spun my experience at Mayo....they are holier than though, and have a lot of policies. I think creighton is similar...and well, its working for mayo.

They're really preferential to CU graduates and graduates of other Jesuit colleges, and it's actually not terribly easy to get in if you're not one of those. So if you're just applying b/c it's "easy" then forget it. If you actually research it and decide you really want to come here, then pm me and I'll let you know what I think.

I respecfully disagree about the Jesuit thing. I think that being from a Jesuit undergrad is helpful, but you are not at a disadvantage in not going to one. Creighton doesn't really try to force its religous values on its medical students. It does try to promote its social values, ie service to humanity, though. You are also not at a disadvantage in not going to Creighton Undergrad, though they do accept many of their own.

For me, it is the counting crows song 👍

I have also heard getting into Creighton without those connections (Jesuit, catholic letters, knowing someone, legacy etc...) is like trying to get into a state school as an out of state resident.
