I also found out that I'm on the alternate list for Creighton Web-Based Program. Is anyone got accepted and not plan to attend? Do you know how many people they put on the alternate list (average) each year?

It's hard to plan ahead being on the alternate list. So much uncertainty. Thanks.

I, too, am on the alternate list for Creighton's web-based program. They told me yesterday that the list was small and that they will review all of the alternates again ("with a fresh set of eyes") at the end of April.

Yes, being an alternate is very frustrating. I am sitting on two alternate lists at the only two schools that I can attend. (I have a husband and 3 kids, so moving anywhere is not really possible.) 😳

I'm not yet on an alternate list at Creighton, I am "on hold for spring grades". Creighton is one of my two possibilities but although UF hasn't sent me a rejection yet, Nancy did say when I called that I don't have a chance as they aren't looking at anyone with less than a 3.0 gpa.

Definitely hard to plan. And then, come to find out, Creighton's orientation is 8/1-6, and I have children starting kindergarden, middle school and high school on 8/3.

I guess if it is meant to be it will work out, right? 😳

Just got my letter. I am on the alternate list. Alternates will receive a second review in mid-June. I've decided to consider it a denial, since they already have said the class is full and move on to the idea of just going for my BS in the fall and reapplying. Good luck to everybody still waiting to hear from schools.

Did your letter state that they will be looking at them in mid June? They had said over the phone to another student that they would not be looking at them unless someone dropped. Does this mean that they will actually rank the list?

My letter states:

.....
After careful evaluation of your application file, the Pharmacy Admission Committee selected you as an alternate for the fall 2005 entering class. Alternates will receive a second review in mid-June. At that time, you will be updated on your admission status which could include an opportunity to interview.

You might want to consider a wait-list for this program a blessing is disguise. There has been discussion of this on here before, but I feel it needs to be emphasized again. Do you really want to pay a fortune for a distance program? What does it say about the profession of pharmacy when we are moving it to a distance program? Would you go to a doctor who got a web-based MD??? I don't think so. Pharmacy is becoming more and more hands on and clinical and a web-based program isn't going to cut it. I just worry this school is ripping people off who think they can get a PharmD the easy way. A degree that affects so many peoples' lives should not be easy and it should not be offered completely via the web, with some watered down labs in the summer. By attending a web-based program, you miss out on interaction with instructors, which can help you develop professionally. You also miss out on interacting with fellow students, who will be your future colleagues. You also miss out on opportunties to participate in student organizations, to do research, and to pursue joint degrees. Not everyone wants to do all of these things, but if you're paying a fortune, shouldn't you attend a school that provides the option for you do them??? Again, if you are on the wait list for this school, don't despair. It could end up being a good thing.

Sorry, no I don't consider it a blessing. As the mother of 4 children ages kindergarten to high school if I do not get into a distant learning site or web-based program, then I can not go to pharmacy school. I want to be a pharmacist. So good or bad choices these are my only options.

Yes, UF has 2 satellite campuses equal distance from my home. Orlando campus is about 1.5 hours east and St. Pete is about 1.5 hours west. Most of the lectures are broadcasted from Gainesville on the web, with group sessions, tests, etc. at the satellite campus.

Having a BS will improve your chances tremendously. Most people in the Class of 2008 have a Bachelor's some have a Master's. I believe there are only a few (2 or 3) that have an Associates.

I am in medical school and have not been to a class since last year. I listen to lectures on MP3 files I download. I show up for required labs and etc. It practically is web-based.
The most important year of Pharmacy school is the same whether you are a web-based student or not and that is the 4th year. It is impossible to make that a distant ed class by the very nature you must physically be in a pharmacy or round on patients. Not everyone is in their early 20s and gives two Sh*ts about student orgs., or joint degrees. You want research take a 4th year elective in clinical pharmacy research, or do a residency or fellowship in Pharmacy. You want a joint degree then quite your job, and go to a local school for an MBA. The point is most people who are in the web-based program have other obligations that keep them from attending school during traditional hours b/c they either need to hold a job to support a family or have children to raise.
Do your research and talk to people in the program or the professors before posting about something you know nothing about. The first web-based class graduates this year. So we will see how good they are when they take the NAPLEX. By the way the web-based students consistently score higher than the campus-based students on exams which are the same.

Anybody on Creighton's Alternate list heard anything yet? It's pretty close to being mid-June. I have not heard anything, so I'm not holding my breath, but I do have my fingers crossed.

jemc2000 I have my fingers crossed for you too !

Have you called Creighton to see where things stand with their waitlist?

No. They said mid-June, and they have been very good to me as far as communications. I figure if I haven't heard by the end of next week or beginning of the following, then maybe I'll contact them.

I contacted them last week and they stated they have not had anyone drop, so as of then, the class was still full.

Gablet & Jemc2000, I'm so glad to find other non-traditional students here!!! I too am married for 7 years, no children of my own, but care for my godson on alternate day (he just turned 1 last month!). My husband works in TX and I do have to apply locally for Fall 2006. This web-based program sounds like a godsent to me and I will look into it. Meanwhile, my best wishes to you on the program 👍

I received this email in response to an email I sent them asking for advice for next year:

Michele,
Thank you for your email. The pharmacy class for fall 2005 is currently full and we do not anticipate much movement this summer. Applicants who are wishing to reapply for fall 2006 will need to complete the PharmCAS application and Creighton Supplemental Application. You must reapply by completing both of these applications for fall 2006. The admission committee will review both your fall 2005 and fall 2006 application and discuss what you have done to strengthen your application file. This would possibly include additional courses/advanced science and math coursework, improved GPA, time spent in a pharmacy or health care setting, additional recommendations, improved PCAT scores, etc. Feel free to contact our office if you would like to discuss your application further. Thanks!

When I was contacted by MWU-CPG that I was accepted, I called to get myself taken off the alternate list at Creighton. However, I am an inquisitive person, so when I talked to Creighton, I inquired about why I was on the alternate list there.

I found out about Creighton's web-based program pretty late, so by the time I got my application in it was already right at the deadline. My interview was April 1st. My interview went very well, so I wondered what happened. The admissions counselor infered that they had accepted enough applicants by that time. 55 people is not many, so the slots filled quickly.

I would assume, though, that they would put those applicants on this years alternate list on a sort of "high priority" list for next year. You gals are good applicants, so I assume that if nobody drops this year, you will be accepted early for next year.

Good luck to all those whom are waiting. I have much empathy for you, as I know the stuggle myself. A person with a family has added stress when things are "up in the air."
