Hi! I've got an interview for Creighton web-based on January 26th for Fall 2007 entrance, and I have a few questions for you all who attend Creighton (web-based in particular)...

1. Do they interview all dates and then decide who gets accepted? There are 3 interview dates right now, and I'm the first date. So will I have to wait until after all 3 are done to find out the results? Do they place people on a wait list until they find out if their top choices accept, or what is the process like??

2. How many hours do you work at a job each week?

3. How many hours do you study each week?

4. How many hours are you on-line for classes each week?

5. Are there any stats available regarding graduating from a web program versus campus-based? About pay, job offers, etc.

6. Are you happy that you did web-based, or looking back would you have done campus based instead?

7. Any suggestions for the interview??

8. How many do you think they interview versus get accepted or rejected?

9. Do you have regional groups who study together, or is it all pretty much by yourself?

THANKS!!! I really appreciate any answers to my questions. I am so excited to have the interview at Creighton, and I hope to join you!!!!

Actually, I would like to hear from those who are in the program currently, not people who would not know the answers. Can you please move it back? Thanks!

hi drugdoc...
i know you're really hoping to hear from current creighton students but i'm also scheduled to interview on the 26th and from what i understand, in previous years, a response (acceptance/rejection) can be expected within two weeks from the interview date...although they are not officially on "rolling admissions" i believe we are at an advantage to interview first as that is when the maximum amount of seats are available to fill. also, a friend of mine is in her third year and has worked full-time as a pharm tech since beginning the program. she absolutely loves being an online student and has nothing but good comments about the program and support she's received from the school. as for the interview tips, you may have already read them but i've been checking out the questions in the feedback section as a sort of general place to start thinking of some resonses. lastly, if you go on creighton's site and search for their factbook under their institutional research section, you can see the pharmacy admission stats since 2002...kind of interesting to see how many applicants, how many accepted, places of home residence, etc. anyway, i'm not sure how helpful this is to you but i just thought i'd share what i've picked up along the way. i wish you luck and i'll see you at the interviews! i too am very excited!

Pre-pharmacy is the most appropriate forum admissions and career choice related questions. It exists so that current students can browse topics of interest without sorting through pre-pharmacy questions. Before this forum was created, we had a hard time keeping those threads on page 1, as the volume here is so much higher. Current students who wish to answer pre-pharmacy questions do visit this forum.

I graduated from the first class in 2005, I can try to answer some of your questions when I get time....just started my week of overnights.
it's probably alot different that when I went, so I will try to help.

having problems sleeping 🙁
I worked full time for the first three years. Didn't have much of a choice. I made alot more at the job I had than a pharmacy intern, plus I had health care, etc. I had been at that job for two years prior.
I applied to on-line and got in. Had 2 other degrees and working in medical field. I would not have gone to school if I had to go the campus route.

I actually didn't have to interview, so can't answer that.
Hours you study a week is up to you - depends on how you learn. Some people studied two days before a test and did fine, some people need to take more time to learn. I happened to study best at night after I got off work, not a morning person at all, so going to class in the morning would have sucked, especially in the COLD winter.

It may be completely different now, but you don't need to be "on-line" that much, you can print your notes out ahead of time. Some classes require discussion groups or required postings.

There are no "stats" - you get a degree. No one knows you did coursework on-line unless you tell them. Some people are amazed that it could be accomplished, some people don't like the idea. You pass the NAPLEX and law and you are the same as everyone else. I believe our class actually had a higher GPA and NAPLEX scores than the campus. Our class on average were older, most already had degrees, jobs, families, etc. so maybe we had a little more academic and life experience than some campus students.

As for groups, it is all up to you. you meet people the summer before you start. Just like high school, you meet people you don't like, people you like, people similar to you. you get assigned to groups. Besides doing what is required, the amount of participation is what you make it. I had a couple people in the same area, we didn't "study" together, but we kept in contact and ran questions by each other and made each other aware/reminders of upcoming due dates and test dates. There are 2 weeks on campus during the summers, you take classes all year around.

Basically, its what you put into it. People can go to campus, not pay attention and have their notes read to them and not learn anything. Just sitting in the class doesn't mean you are "learning". I can't tell you exactly what it is like now - we had ALOT of problems with technology/classes,etc, but there have been many classes since, so they most likely have all the problems worked out (I hope). I am glad I did it, because I would not have been able to go to pharmacy school otherwise. I passed the NAPLEX and law first shot, work at a hospital pharmacy and make over 100k.

any other questions? i can try to answer, but like I said, it's probably alot different than when I went. Maybe you could contact the school and ask if there are a couple students who would like to answer questions over email.
I'm slightly curious how it has changed.....

gonna try and go back to sleep...

Hi Drugdoc,

I am a P1 in the web-based program. I echo much of what pharmboy30 has stated.

1. Do they interview all dates and then decide who gets accepted? There are 3 interview dates right now, and I'm the first date. So will I have to wait until after all 3 are done to find out the results? Do they place people on a wait list until they find out if their top choices accept, or what is the process like??

The way it worked last year was that you interviewed and then you found out about 2 weeks after your interview. You did not have to wait for all of the interviews to be completed. BUT I will say that I think they made a decision on my group after they conducted another round of interviews however I was in one of the last groups to interview so that may have been why.

2. How many hours do you work at a job each week?

I don't work right now because I wanted to see how I could handle things. I may try to work next semester. Several of my classmates work about 15-20 hours per week (a few work even more hours). It is hard but I am pretty sure that they all survived the first semester.

3. How many hours do you study each week?

That is kind of hard for me to answer because I will study more hours if I have an exam that week. I spend a good 8 hours or more a day on school work but that includes listening to lectures and doing assignments.

4. How many hours are you on-line for classes each week?

I am usually on-line an average of 4 hours a day. That includes listening to lectures, printing off assignments, answering emails, etc.

5. Are there any stats available regarding graduating from a web program versus campus-based? About pay, job offers, etc.

The only stats I know of are the ones that compare class and web students in regards to NAPLEX scores, admissions statistics and class performance in some of the courses. For the most part, the web-based students tend to have slightly higher scores and admissions statistics. I think that a lot of it has to do with the fact that the majority of us are older and some have masters and PhDs in other disciplines already.

6. Are you happy that you did web-based, or looking back would you have done campus based instead?

I am VERY happy with my decision to do the web-based program. I was not in a position to move to Nebraska so this was a great opportunity for me.

7. Any suggestions for the interview??

Be yourself! I made the decision that I was just going to relax and be myself. I had a great interview experience that was very laid back so I wasn't nervous at all. I felt like they just wanted to get to know me better and not necessarily grill me.

8. How many do you think they interview versus get accepted or rejected?

Not sure

9. Do you have regional groups who study together, or is it all pretty much by yourself?

I don't participate in any regional study groups but I do have a few people that I communicate with on a regular basis to study, go over assignments or just talk to about how hard a test was, etc. 😱

THANKS!!! I really appreciate any answers to my questions. I am so excited to have the interview at Creighton, and I hope to join you!!!![/QUOTE]

Good luck at your interview :luck:

Thanks for all of the comments on the web-based program! Keep 'em coming....!

Hi Drugdoc!

I'm interviewing at Creighton on Jan. 26th for the web-based program also. So, I can't answer most of your questions, but I do have some information on the number of applicants/interviewees based on an information session I attended a couple of months ago.

According to the guy at the session, last year they had approximately 450 applicants for 55 spots in the web-based class. They supposedly interview about 2 people for each seat in the class (which would lead me to believe that an early interview date is better, but I don't have anything to substantiate that!). He also said they interview about 50 people per interview date, and that number includes both campus-based and web-based.

I'm not sure how this years numbers will compare to that, but it might give you an idea of what we're up against!

Good luck - maybe we'll meet at the interview!

So..wait...it's all web based? That's the greatest thing ever. I'm too ADD to pay attention in lecture. I learn from notes...it's just how I do. This would have saved me hours of life. Damn you traditional schooling...

Sorry to disappoint WVUPharm2007 but it is not all web-based 😉 . We are required to travel to Nebraska during the summers to do our labs, clinical components, etc. There are no entirely web-based pharmacy programs to my knowledge.

The travel, from what I understand, consists of 2-3 weeks per summer to do stricktly labs.

I have another question, though....in a post above (not sure if I'm reading it correctly) one of the posters says that the program is year-round?? I thought it was the regular 9 months, then the labs for a few weeks during the summer. Which is correct? Thanks!

when I was doing it, we still had 2-3 classes in the summer in addition to summer labs.
Like I said, I was in the first class, they have most likely improved and streamlined things.
you would have to check on the website.

They changed things starting with my class (I think) such that we do not have to take any actual classes during the summer. We now take all of our classes during the semester but there are certain components of some of the classes that we have to do during the summer. The P1s are going to be in Nebraska for about 12 days this summer doing labs, etc. Next year I think we will only have to be out there for about 6 days.
