Hi, I am an MS3 in the middle of VSAS away applications. Some of the schools require a "criminal background check (CBC) within the last 12 months." Does anyone know how to do this?

I spoke with my school, and they said I can go to our school's police department to get my "fingerprint taken", but is this the same as a CBC?

Before entering medical school, I recall using CertiPhi, but that required the school to take the initial steps. Does any recommend any other online background check company that can provide this service reliably and quickly? Thank you.

If you know who in your student affairs office was responsible for sending out your CertiPhi thing in the past, you can try to talk to them to see if they can send you a new application. That's basically what I did. Alternatively, you may be able to get it done at your DMV/DoT.

Thanks. I contacted my student affairs office, but they are unclear who is in charge of the CertiPhi at out school, so I'm still awaiting further info from them.

I know this is institution-dependent, but in your experience, do you know if schools accept the CBC from when you matriculated into medical school, despite it not being "within the last 12 months of elective start date"? I emailed the school I'm specifically interested in, but still awaiting response.

Lastly, aside from CertiPhi, do you know of any other online sites that may be fast and reliable? I discovered CastleBranch.com , but I'm wondering if other people had positive experiences with it. Thank you,

I'm not sure if they'll take it or not. One of my planned aways just says "cleared background check" while another says "within the last 12 months," so I just got the new one to be safe.

My school uses HireRight, but it doesn't look like you can use it as an individual. The email I got from student affairs also mentioned a site called Instant People Check, but I haven't looked at it.

If the VSAS school is not asking for a recent BC, you can always get a copy of the one the med school did on you when you matriculated.

Contact student affairs.
