How do you figure out the individual state laws regarding licensing? Is there a website that explains this along with the technicalities of what an expungement means in the various states?

Basically from what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, the state that you want to do your residency in is the one who's laws regarding your expunged record will apply? Does anyone have any links to the licensure applications by state? I'm just curious to see how detailed their questions are...

Actually what the OP questioned was why an expungement was smoke and mirrors, not the rest of the advice.

So now i'm a person that doesn't read and speaks from zero experience. The OP is a tool too! I wish we were all as awesome as you are! Funny thing is, you come on here making comments about how someone is a douche, statements about backhanding the OP, saying stuff like this to me and yet the OP is the douche. You are just better than all of us for sure.

You're the only one that came on here with nothing nice to say. So shouldn't you look in the mirror when it comes to being a douche?

Holy cow, so much arguing over something that actually varies region by region. In some states an expungement is a complete erasure of your offenses whereas in others the records remain "sealed" somewhere and can be recovered if a judge asks for them. Another factor is whether the offense was handled in a local court (where it may not have been reported to any centralized records system) or whether it was handled in a state or federal court (where it probably was).

Long story short: ask a local lawyer about your options. Do the expungement. Then, if the offenses do not appear in background checks they are "gone" for all intents and purposes (this was the advice a lawyer gave to the friend I mentioned in my last post). If not, then you have some explaining to do.

Look, it comes down to this:

do you wanna hide your past or disclose it?

Personally, anything I sign that says something like "I swear upon penalty of perjury this is the truth" or "I affirm the above is the whole truth" I treat like I'm hooked up to a lie detector machine. Which would definitely be going off if you said "nope" for those expunged records as if they never happened.

Get a lawyer who is familiar with medical licensing law and ask them this question. You're asking to split hairs here and you're talking about your future ability to practice medicine. Ask the professional lawyer folks, not a bunch of med students and residents.

Thank you.

I wish I could think of something witty for a response that Jamers should give to this childish mirror statement...something along the lines of him being rubber & the OP glue.

This is serious. Jamers has resorted to sending me PMs over this!!!

But after little Jamers had to send me a PM about this doesn't it give even more validation to pointing out the fact that he is perhaps the biggest douche of all? Obviously just an immature little turd that just couldn't let it go and had to take it to PM. Plus calling out the OP like that.

I was just trying to bring to light that he is apparently going around with some attitude or something. Maybe a little self reflection time would be appropriate.
