I am an RN with a background in critical care. I am contemplating whether I should move forward with my plan to apply to med school (already finished prereqs) or apply for CRNA school. I wanted to hear what are the frustrations of being in the CRNA role as opposed to being an anesthesiologist. It is truly my dream to become a physician. But aspects CRNA role seem appealing to me as well now. (I am 27 year old woman, single, isolated myself because of premed demands, etc) I think I could be very satisfied with CRNA salary. However I am curious wheter CRNAs feel respected in the hospital environment and whether others regard them as capable and competent?

allnurses.com can give you a better idea of the CRNA side of things. Scroll down to the specialty forums and you'll find Anesthesia and can sift through those posts.

I would recommend nurse-anesthesia.org over allnurses....the moderators at allnurses must approve every post and it can sometimes take 2 days for a reply to come up, which can be very annoying.
